Potomac and Holton

It is not less a strong network to have coming out of high school then Holton. In fact, I would say it's probably stronger than Holton. The Holton famililes I know are mostly builder, real estate types, honestly. Not very intellectual. Now, compared to the Sidwell and St. Albans networks, that is a different story.

You must be a southerner. No one has heard of Potomac outside the Confederate Belt. Most of their grads go to southern SLACs or southern state schools which is desired if you're a MAGA. Bless your heart.

Are you saying Potomac is a good fit if you’re in the MAGA crowd? And is that accurate?

DP but there are a lot of MAGA supporters parents there.

And a lot of liberals. I actually like that there is constant complaint about bias from both sides as opposed to orthodoxy (why we didn’t choose GDS, despite being relatively leftist).

But for the original question - there are actually a fair number of parents with kids at both schools, so if you get in, just ask admissions at either school if you can talk to them - all the ones I know are really kind and have thoughtful reasons for their choices.

Yes, it is a good fit for MAGAs.

Both have strong academics, sports, arts, college placement, etc. If given a choice, I would go to the school on the same side of the river as your home. Yes both have bussing, but crossing the AL bridge everyday is a pain—and nerve-wracking once your child starts driving. Yes people make both schools work from either side of the river, but it’s so much easier living closer to school. Especially socially—if you live on the other side, you are the one that has to make the effort to continuously cross over for events, hang-outs, etc.

+1,000 how has no one brought this up??

FH makes no sense - I went to Potomac in the 80s/early 90s and played varsity FH for 4 years. The team has quite a history, going back to when the school was in Dupont and didn’t have its own fields.

I wrote that we needed both sports fh and rowing..not one. Potomac is not known for female sports.

I should have been more specific... Not known for elite preppy sports...the ones you listed can be found at any run of the mill public school.

Potomac girls squash team also does very well!!

Liberal Dem family here and we love Potomac. The parent community is not a difficult place to find your fit. More importantly, the kids represent the spectrum of views and we found them to be welcoming to all.

This is ridiculous. We know of about 3 very conservative families. The one family we knew were the sad worked for trump was embarrassed to let anyone know that. We’re fairly liberal and have found most families are more left than we are. We also have kids in 3 different divisions so know a fair amount of families there

Girls tennis, squash and lacrosse also do quite well. I have one incredible athlete and 2 kids who love sports but aren’t great. I appreciate that they’ve all found sports they love there and all play 3 seasons.

Prep, Landon, St albans, Gonzaga, Stone Ridge, Visi and Holton are the DMV elite in my opinion and I went to public high school.

What a stupid way to form an opinion!
