Potomac and Holton

Funny how this thread is about how much money the kids have, how the families got their money, how long they have had their money, etcetcetc.

Or maybe it’s not that strange after all.

As someone who grew up going to internationally-known private schools followed by an Ivy and a top-10 grad program, I’d never heard of Potomac until I moved to Virginia. I still don’t know anyone who went there. I’ve met a handful of Holton people through the years, but IME outside of the DC area Sidwell and STA have the most name-brand recognition. (Sacred Heart schools are of course quite well-known, but for whatever reason not a lot of people outside of DC seem to know that Stone Ridge is part of that network)

No, it is not. It just Potomac boosters who are trying to make Potomac something it is not.
Stop trying to make Potomac happen.

It is not less a strong network to have coming out of high school then Holton. In fact, I would say it's probably stronger than Holton. The Holton famililes I know are mostly builder, real estate types, honestly. Not very intellectual. Now, compared to the Sidwell and St. Albans networks, that is a different story.

You don't know Holton families.

NP. I know a lot of Holton families, and most are lovely. Every last one is somewhat impressive but dime a dozen professional class and/or commercial real estate. If you're looking for intellectual luminaries or people who will get your child that summer job at a hedge fund, look elsewhere.

NP. We have always lived in upper NW DC and have been aware of Potomac since our kids were very little, as have other people in our neighborhood and elementary school. It is perceived to be an appealing option if you have your eye on coed and your child wants or needs a challenging academic program.

You must be a southerner. No one has heard of Potomac outside the Confederate Belt. Most of their grads go to southern SLACs or southern state schools which is desired if you're a MAGA. Bless your heart.

Two of our children attended and this is just laughable.

Parents include a large number of diplomats (multiple ambassadors) or those at other international orgs. Long history of prestigious families sending children there like the Marriott girls, Lauder girls, and daughter of people who are household Hollywood names. Also lots of highly educated professionals in normal D.C. jobs like working for the White House, Congress, etc. My perception is that there's a higher percentage of parents with Ph.D.s as compared to my other child's top DC private just from talking to our children's friends families.

Wow.

OP, are you getting a good sense of the parent communities at Potomac and Holton?

Potomac parents ...trying " to make fetch happen"...

There's a kind of weird insecurity that comes with being a Potomac parent as you can see from the thread.

Every parent who posts on here, with children at every school, is in some way deeply insecure.

Now do the Holton parents.

Or do we just say both are deeply insecure and leave it at that?

Now do the Holton parents.

Lame attempt at deflection - Potomac parents.

Or do we just say both are deeply insecure and leave it at that?

Mine went to Holton + then HYP. Potomac seemed fine but not have the sports we wanted at that time (rowing + FH). Maybe they have better sports for girls now or maybe you don't care OP?
