I’m early 30s, UMC (maybe rich?), live in Manhattan, and run 20ish miles a week, so probably in this demographic. I agree Nikes are out based on what I see.
I wear sneakers (different brands) for 3 different purposes - (1) fashion/to match an outfit, (2) running around/casual errands, and (3) running. I wear On Clouds for (2) and Brooks, for which I got fitted at a running store for actual running. They are not interchangeable. When I’m out and about, I see a ton of Hokas and On. Very rarely Nikes these days. |
Why? We need good shoes too |
I am UMC and a shoe horse. I wear Nike for casual sneakers but Hoka to work out. |
Ew no swaetshops |
Just try to resist the Communist Chinese slave labor. |

I just can’t believe that people overthink their sneaker purchases to this extent. Or even ask strangers to weigh in on sneakers! I saw a pair of Nikes I like (for fashion sneakers/running errands) recently and bought them. They are comfy and look good. I am 40 and live in a $3M+ home (since the title of this post references wealth). I do not think about other women’s sneaker purchases. |
When I meet women that are this judgmental, I think trashy and classless. |
I have so many sneakers! I have a pair of New Balances that I use for workouts, two pairs of Hokas that make my feet happy during many miles of walking my dog each day, a few pairs of New Balance “lifestyle” sneakers for errands and every day wear (that is not working out or walking my dog), and a few pairs of “fashion” sneakers for shorter term wear. |
