LOL. "Created decades ago"? Big 3 was created on DCUM to copy MoCo's W

Private schools have no interest in copying public schools. Private schools are an escape from public schools…for those that can afford it.

LOL. Private schools copy public schools (especially MoCo) all the times. And yes "big 3" was created on DCUM to emulate MoCo Ws.

Fake news.

It's real.
You must be new on DCUM

No, it’s fake news.

Why are you public school parents constantly posting on the private school thread? I can’t imagine being interested in perusing the public school forum, not to mention constantly posting there.
Please concern yourself with public school/general population business.

Who said I was a public school parent? You have a chip on your shoulders.
The fact remains that some private schools parents in DC wanted their schools to feel special and prestigious like the MoCo Ws, came up with the term

You reek of public school.

I don’t know anything about MoCo public schools. My children attend a Big 3. If I wanted to live in MoCo and send my children to school with the masses, I certainly could do so. Please move on to the public school forum where you belong.
Now shoo!

Attend not attended. Like I said, you're new and don't know what you're talking about. You are insecure and definitely have a chip on your shoulder.

Who cares what you think, public school parent. You don’t belong here.

DP. You are so insecure and insular. Def a candidate for a character in this YA novel.

This whole Big 3/5 thing was fun in a quaint, tic way. But now the chips on their shoulders have moved in and it’s ick.

I’m also a Big 3 parent. Big 3 doesn’t change. It’s Sidwell, STA, NCS in that order.

But I would never ever look down upon anyone. There are many many fine schools in public private and parochial sectors.

Let’s guess where your kids go to school.

So funny.

^ I meant “stick” because your response is so weak it uses just one stick.

Whoh. Ouch!

Big 3 has always been Sidwell, GDS and STA/NCS. If you’re not including STA/NCS as one school system then NCS falls off that list.

GDS was not even created as a school when the Big 3 schools began. It has always been STA, NCS, and Sidwell. Always. NCS/STA are NOT the same school. Different institutions, different boards, different finances, etc... Only 30 percent of families have kids in both schools.

As said GDS was not even in existence as a school when the Big 3 term began.

Was it based on college outplacement, where the wealthy sent their kids, SAT scores, etc.? Does anyone know? Does the Big 3 change year to year? I know there are a lot of great schools in the area, I just wonder why it's such a polarizing topic on this board.

STA, NCS, and Sidwell have always been the "top tier," "Big 3," etc.. They were around and had that distinction long before some other schools even opened.

To answer OP, they have always been the most prestigious and most elite in the area. Yes lots of other great schools but they have always been the top schools and most well known and prestigious in the area. The only people that care are people who have kids at other schools. My kids are at the "Big 3" and noone has ever used that term in person nor cares.

And yet here you are posting about prestige. But you don’t really care…

STA hasn't been considered a top 3 school in years. They don't get enough applications any more to be considered big 3 for high school. Sidwell and GDS are far more competitive and harder to get into.

When did the Big 3 term begin? And when do you think GDS was founded?

Huh???
What are you talking about? GDS was created in 1945. The "big 3" is a term created on DCUM. DCUM has not even been around for 30 years.

No but Big 3 school and top tier have been around for over a hundred years and the top tier has always been Sidwell and Cathedral schools. Ask anyone that grew up in this area. GDS came into the picture much later as did Potomac.
