Are you for real? You don't think working 40 hours / week should be enough to afford basics of life?

Min fast food wage in CA is now 40,000 a year. So a couple with two kids is going to earn 80,000 a year. The issue is they aren’t going to qualify for many state funded programs. Free health insurance in CA through medi-cal the cut off for a family of 4 is $43000. No more food stamps, free child care either. A lot of fast food workers are going to be ok n for a big surprise when they get cut off from many of these programs.

It's good for the workers, but other jobs haven't risen in salary very much. New teachers will barely earn more than a fast food worker.

No, because some jobs aren't worth that. Also, imposing a requirement like that just reduces the number of available jobs and makes the work harder to find for those who just need limited, supplemental income (adolescents, parents, retirees, etc.).

" Close to UC Santa Barbara is the town of Carpinteria (where Kevin Costner lives). A beginning teacher there makes $50,367.

It is ridiculous that someone who spent 5 years in college can make only $8-13,000 dollars more than someone who didn't graduate high school."

Teachers need to be paid more. Others don't need to be paid less. That's what you mean to say.
