ASFS principal

Sounds like the new principal.

I'm fairly certain that the current ASFS principal wouldn't degrade him/herself by positing on this sophomoric site.

+1. APS only cares about attendance because VDOE has told them to care.

Exactly. At least one other person gets it.

You must be new to the school. ASFS has always cared about tardiness and attendance. The issue now is that there are too many PARENTS who don’t care about tardiness and need a push.

Lazy parents are complaining about APS when they are the actual problem here.

Sounds like the new principall on here again.

No. Just a long time parent who is tired of the whiners. Just leave home 10 min earlier you lazy F.

Yeah, right. You aren't the new principal.

OP or ASFS ppl, what is going on with the new principal? There is one month left of school and we randomly are notified the school start time is back to 9:00 am where it used to be until she changed it (or tried to) in January. This is so confusing and weird.

Parents,

Many parents have asked recently for the official start time at ASFS. School and instruction both begin at 9:00am. Students may arrive at school starting at 8:35, and they will be marked late after 9:00.

Thank you.

Dear ASFS parents,

As you all know, school starts each day at 8:50am. Morning announcements start playing at 8:50, and teachers start instruction immediately afterward. It is important that students be on time every day, as they miss important information and the daily routines when they are late. We do understand that some students arrive tardy due to doctor's appointments and the like; those are excused tardies. Unfortunately, we also have many students who are receiving unexcused tardies.

Until now, we have had a "grace period" for tardiness until 9:00; we have only marked students tardy after 9:00. However, there has been a great increase in the number of tardy students over the last few weeks. There are so many students arriving late that there is often a line at the door to get in.

In light of that, we will now be shutting the front doors at 8:55, not 9:00. Students arriving after 8:55 must be accompanied by their parents to the main office before they can go to class. If you pull up to drop your child off, and the doors are closed, that means you must walk your child in and sign them in.

Thank you.

Anyone with a couple hundred bucks to light on fire should FOIA the last four months of emails between her and Syphax about whether she can start the school day 10 minutes earlier 😂

asfs website says school starts at 9 am
https://asfs.apsva.us/contact-us/

Uh, when I go to the link you posted it says this:

“School Hours: 8:50 AM – 3:50 PM”

Oh how interesting . . . someone changed it tonight. Two hours ago, it said 9:00 a.m. as start time, and even my son's teacher told me it has been 9:00 a.m. for many years, and she has been there for at least a decade.

For more than a decade, ASFS students were expected to be in their seats by 8:50. They have to be stricter about it now because some parents are lazy.

+1

Funny how the lazy parents are also the biggest whiners.

15:23 not lazy or whining, I was asking a question to see if anyone knew why the principal is sending out an all school message in mid-May reversing the school start time she changed. I guess you don't know or maybe the principal really is on DCUM.

It’s definitely whining. The email isn’t “confusing” at all. Just get your kid there by 8:50 so they can start teaching at 9.

The timing with 4 weeks left in the school year is weird and the back and forth switching is confusing, not her email.

Do you know what time you need to drop your kid off? Yes. Is it any different? No. Not confusing.

So with a 9am start, the doors open at 835 am?

Were the doors open at 825am for the 850 start, or did they just have a narrower window of arrival (which can be problematic with carlines etc).
