Will America vote for Kamala Harris in 2024? This is the real question.

However, I don't think Harris is popular enough. I think that if Biden dropped out, Whitmer would be the primary contender to take the Democratic nomination and beat Nikki Haley (or Ron DeSantis). Other than Andy Beshear (who continues to claim he won't run), I think Whitmer is the strongest contender after Biden and Trump.

Is it that whitmer is a white woman. That’s the only reason she would be a contender over harris.

Or it could be the fact that Harris is an idiot.

I’m a nonwhite woman. I think both are true - a woman can win, but not a woman AND a minority. One or the other. And I honestly don’t care. I am fine with this being the state of the world for now, progress is incremental.

I also agree that Harris is a quintessential diversity hire who is not a substantively good candidate and has been a huge disappointment. I don’t want her to be president.

Diversity hire? Harris has been an ELECTED official - in a state with a 6% black population. And she'll be a two-term VP. And...maybe president one day.

You can start gnashing your teeth now.

I’m the PP you’re responding to. Yes, a diversity hire. Biden very nakedly chose her as his VP to pander to the identity politics faction of the Democratic Party. I have no doubt that she’s an ambitious and intelligent person, and yes, she was an elected official. That doesn’t mean she wasn’t a diversity hire for her current role. And she has not proven herself to be a great fit for the job either. She comes off as an empty suit. I voted for HRC in 2016, and in my view there is a stark difference between the two of them in competency, presence, and who I would want picking up the phone at 3 AM, to quote an old HRC ad.

I’m a Democrat. I’ll reluctantly vote for the Biden/Harris ticket over Trump or any of the insane Republicans who are running in 2024, but truthfully I am not confident that Biden will live through 2028 and I really do not want Harris to be president. She’s fine as a senator or ambassador or even a cabinet head, but I don’t feel great about having her in charge.

What has she actually done in her role as VP that makes you question her competence?

Just because someone is an underrepresented minority, and that is viewed as a plus by some, does not mean the person is not qualified or competent. Those of you continuously saying that she's an idiot or lacks competence or was merely a diversity hire, please tell us, in what ways is she actually unqualified for the job? Or are you maybe just a bigot who can't possibly see a Black woman as competent?

I'm the PP you're responding to. I'm the child of Indian immigrants, so I also consider Harris to be an Indian woman as equally as she is a Black woman, and from an identity politics perspective I would have been happy to see her succeed. Of course I agree that one can be "diverse" and also good at their job - I just do not think Harris is one of those people. And I reject your implication that criticizing her makes me "a bigot who can't possibly see a Black woman as competent" and I think this tired argument epitomizes the Democratic party's general problems with DEI and their constant racial pandering. If you think it's racist, it's your problem to live with. I'm not changing my opinion because of you, and there are many others like me who think similarly and also vote.

She's qualified on paper. Yes, I recognize that she was a prosecutor and that she held national office. I don't think she's a bad politician. She is certainly much smarter and more articulate than Trump, but "better than Trump" is not the bar I use for determining whether someone is actually a good candidate for president. She does not seem to have achieved any substantive policy accomplishments. Biden very publicly handed her the border/Central America to "own" as VP, and while that may have been an unfair assignment, in my view she has done absolutely nothing to help or even steer the conversation in the right direction. This is a critical issue, both optically for the Democrats and substantively for our country. She's done nothing else of substance that I can point to as She's also a bad communicator. She's especially bad at dealing with tough questions and criticism. Her interviews are borderline embarrassing. Biden isn't great, either, but again - I'm looking at her on her own merits. I wouldn't be happy to have her negotiating with Putin or Xi or really anyone on behalf of the country.

Exactly. Harris has 100% failed her one significant task of addressing the border crisis, unless of course the current invasion is the actual Democrat goal.

VP Harris was tasked with addressing the root causes of migration from Central American countries. Read up on it. Google is your friend.

It's the job of congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform. The GOP is in charge of the House, right?

No, it's the job of the current administration as the executive branch to ENFORCE the laws CURRENTLY in effect, got it?

Just build a wall ( how stupid ) , right?

Yes, it worked. You didn't like it. That's why you ideologues who don't believe in national borders started opening parts of it and importing mass poverty, something we did not have under Trump.

It sure did work. It seems unlikely that migrants would have the $5 they needed for a ladder. Or the power tools needed to cut through it. Trump, the stable genius, reduced illegal immigration to zero...amirite?

It’s a real issue. She is so, so very mediocre and Biden seems highly unlikely to last another four years.

If it comes down to Biden vs. Trump in 2024 , Biden will win.

You can worry about Harris in 2028.

Mediocre is better than Trump and all the other GOP and independent candidates running, so I'm good with it.

I wonder whether Harris is holding out for some sort of a concession from the Democratic party before stepping aside for a candidate who can beat Trump. Possibly a Supreme Court seat?

I’m aware of those states. I voted in PA in 2020. I don’t think he’s a lock to win any of them this time around, especially with the thin margins in WI and MI. MI in particular has a lot of Muslim voters who Biden has alienated with his support for Israel. Not saying that Trump would be better on the issue, but I can see them sitting out.

So pathetic that this is all that the Democrats have to offer, and we are just hoping to squeak out a win -- if we're lucky and can also get a few abortion initiatives on the ballot at election time. If elected, Biden will be unable to serve his full 2nd term, we will get Harris, and then how much you wanna bet she'll be the default candidate in 2028 bc identity politics and turns and whatnot. Ridiculous we don't have a more effective plan or more popular candidates. If we had someone younger with the amount of charisma B. Clinton had in his pinky finger to even be able to put in as VP in 2024, Biden would sail into office. All bc of the guy who said he was just going to run once and be our savior in 2020. The Republican Party is in the toilet and we should be able to just sit back and breathe a little easier but it's shocking how little foresight those in the executive office currently have.

+1
And so funny that now the Biden administration has (with tail between legs) finally decided that yes, we actually DO need a wall. Idiots.

DP. You're missing the point. We would have to worry about Harris starting immediately.

That’s been overblown. Muslims are 1% of voters in Michigan. The Republicans have been shellacked in every Michigan election since 2016, Biden won there by 150,000 votes, and the Michigan GOP is broke.

This is why Biden winning in 2024 is a likelihood.

The GOP led House of Representatives is literally a clown show. Nothing is getting done legislation wise.

Trump will get convicted of something in 2024. The majority of Americans will have moved on from him in the general election - enough for a electoral college win.
