| Havanese also known as Velcro dog. Spent all day today on my DH lap while he watched football. When my kids are sitting in floor he backs into them and sits touching them because he just wants to be close. |
Another vote for the cavapoo. Ours is one year old now and gets cuddlier by the day. (We've had him since he was 12 weeks old.) He is the ultimate lap/velcro dog. |
| As someone who works with dogs I can tell you it will all depend on personality. Most breeders will send a puppy off at 8-10 weeks. You can start to see personalities form but they can change. Your best bet is to look at rescues and ask the organization and foster about the dog or puppy. I have worked with several mixed breeds which were super affectionate and their dna spelled lap dog all day long. I know most people seem to hate pitties, and I used to, but most, are potatoes and super affectionate. Some are perfect service dogs because they are smart and very much lap dogs that think their job is love. But I would stick with a pittie mix rescue versus a breeder if you go this route. Too many breeders breed for them to be something else entirely. The pittie mixes are love bugs. |
They really are. Mine is in my lap right now. He climbs in the lap of anyone who sits down. It’s his favorite way to nap. |
| You need to get the dogs bred for hundreds of years specifically to cuddle! A lap dog. Maltese, bichon or any really. Yorkies are cuddly but still have a disposition to do things (terriers were rat dogs). |
| I have a 15 pound miniature poodle who is laying in my lap right now. We joke around that he's half cat. His favorite place to be is in somebody's lap. My daughter and her friends pick him up and put him in their laps and he just goes with it. |
| Both of our standard poodles are very cuddly - to the point that they will keep tapping you with their paw if you are sitting in a chair where they can't get up next to you |
| 100% cavalier King Charles. The boys are more cuddly than females. They’re the best most loving dogs ever |

Going to get hate but my pittie is the most cuddly Velcro lapdog ever —and I grew up with lots of dogs! She is constantly on my lap. I had a friend visiting who owns a goldendoodle, and he was totally sad bc his dog never cuddles.
And before I get the “just wait, she will snap” — she is 6. |
| When I think of a lap dog I think of a small breed. Some large dogs do want to climb in your lap, but that isn't exactly comfortable. Especially for a child. I would get a small breed with soft fur. That's a much more pleasant experience than an 80 lb dog trying to climb on you. |
Cuddly doesn't mean lap dog. I've had multiple very cuddly fosters - most were respectful of my space, they would curl up next to me on the couch, maybe put their head on my lap and not the whole body. Most cuddly ones were ok with being hugged. Small breeds are often not good with children, none of the cuddly lap Chihuahua mixes in our rescue are cleared to be placed in homes with children under 12. Small dogs are often insecure and prone to fear aggression. |
