Dp. Because dogs have been seen as companions. Because the meat industry is extremely cruel in how they keep dogs and then murder them. Because you could get rabies if you eat them. Although I hope they do |
Can you imagine if I said, “I’m dating the son of a drug cartel kingpin, but he treats me so well, seems like a good person, and I’ve never witnessed him breaking the law, so I’m sure he’ll never join the family business and it’s totally safe to be with him.” Because that’s what pit bull lovers sound like. Maybe everything will work out just fine. Maybe someone will get whacked. Most people would rather avoid the risk. |
Pit bulls are not the equivalent to drug dealers. Good grief. You have drank from the cool aid and believed everything you read. I love it when dog haters say "don't compare humans to dogs because humans are superior" and yet do so when they want to make a point. Pit bulls are an umbrella term for five different breeds. That is why there are "more" attacks. Also, the person who is raising them are the ones responsible for their behavior. If they are attack it is mainly because how they were treated. Same with you drug dealer's son. If he was raised believing drugs are the way to make money than he won't see anything wrong. But just because your dad is a crimminal doesn't mean the son will be. So yes, you shouldn't judge the son of a drug dealer. Take Woody Harrelson, the actor his father was a convicted murderer/hitman. Would you judge Woody based on his father's behavior? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Harrelson |
I feel more sorry for the dog |
This thread is from almost a year ago. OP, come back and update us. |
I too am a cat person but was guilted into getting a dog. The kids and I loathed that animal. My husband traveled for work so the bulk of care fell on me. I resented taking the dog out to the bathroom, the yapping, chewing, ugh... Like a PP said, it will become a constant source of resentment and argument. A dog is infantilized and will never gain any degree of independence around toileting and entertainment. It will depend on you for literally everything. If you are a dyed in the wool cat person then you will hate having a dog. I wish I had stuck to my guns because I resented the dog and then felt guilty for resenting an innocent animal that was just doing what dogs do. When the dog died I was secretly relieved, then felt guilty about feeling relieved. |
I haven't been following the thread, sorry. We did get a dog, a golden doodle. My daughter has bad allergies to cats and dogs but she's not allergic to our dog. She is obsessed with me, follows me everywhere. We did some obedience training and it has made her a really good dog. She is very sweet, very fun and very cute. The best part is my kids are in love with her. They revolve their life around her. It's wonderful to watch them all together. She really hasn't disrupted our lives, even though I'm her primary caretaker. Since I couldn't get a cat, I am happy with my dog. It took a month to get used to having one, but I am absolutely in love with her. |
It's so funny how pitbull owners always get so emotional and write screeds about their beasts. People get pitbulls to express "masculinity" or to be contrarian and show people their dog won't actually maul or kill children. Except when they do |
I got attacked by a chihuahua. A Rottweiler killed my "pit bull" (staffie, and she'd let the cat sleep on her, but what does it matter to your ignorant @ss, right?). It's so "funny" how people who don't know anything about "pit bulls" (still not a breed) get so irrational and write screeds about how they're all demon dogs, despite not owning them or having any more actual real-life experience with them than reading the clickbait and drinking the kool-aid. |
Dogs are gross. Follow your gut |
I don't like dogs either OP. Thankfully my DH and kids are allergic! So I'm safe for now.
If I did get a dog, I would NOT get a puppy. I'd get one a few years old from a foster situation so it had been in a home. And I'd screen for a personality that would mesh well with our home. If you like cats, there are dogs that are essentially cats. Smaller ones. The yappiness and the nipping can be problems though, so you do have to train the dog well. |
Not surprised you've suffered multiple attacks but especially the Rottweiler. Owning a Rottweiler or pitbull is very much a signal you are low or criminal class. Or one of those loony dog rescue obsessives I suppose. |
Posting blanket statements about breeds shows you're unintelligent and ill-informed, and probably have a poorly-trained dog whose trash behavior you excuse because "it's not a pit bull". One of those loony breed-ranters, I guess. |
