Do you keep narcan around?

Josh is bored.

I haven’t read the whole thread but chances are if my kid needs Narcan they’re not gonna be at home.

Kids aren’t likely to OD in the living room while mom is doing the dishes or out in public. They are most likely to OD in a room alone, to be found too late or with other people also using and too drunk/high to notice their friend isn’t just sleeping.

Kids don’t want to caught by mom doing swings. If they are using, they are going to be doing it when/where they are least likely to be found by a responsible adult

+1 I will never have Narcan handy in my house.

Yeah…I don’t get it.

I suppose if my child had a known problem with drug problem we were working on I would. But otherwise no

It only takes one time. Glad you’re so high and mighty that you’d rather your kid die after mistakenly overdosing or taking something unknowingly cut with fentanyl because you think you’re above keeping something in the house just in case.

You haven’t done your job as a parent if they do drugs. Even one time. That’s a fail on your part.

You're either an idiot or completely naive.

Anyway, I have narcan in my powder room and I have purse narcan though I don't always take it with me (depends which bag I'm carrying).

I used narcan once on a man who passed out on the street. I'm glad I had it on hand. It's not just for teenagers!

Nay kids are adults now and never touched a drug in their life. Sorry you suck as a parent. I don’t

Wow - so let me understand this: if you are at a school-wide event (and fentanyl IS in your kids’ school; don’t deluxe yourself), and some kid passes out from a probably fentanyl episode, the response you would show your children is to just step over the body, and announce:

“sucks to be you. Guess you’ll have to die; this looks like a ‘you problem.’ See what a great parent I am, kids? let’s go now, bye.”

You are not just a horrible parent, PP; you are truly a disgusting human being. How do you live with yourself?

Easily. Sorry but no I’m not giving your kid narcan. Insult me all you want.

The issue is not just giving a child-victim of fentanyl some narcan. And it isn’t just liability.

It is your smug disregard for human life (especially the lives of teens), and revolting superiority complex, combined with major denial about an epidemic affecting our society (including your kids school).

No need for me to insult you. You are clearly too dumb to understand the issues here. The real insult is the existence of you and people like you in the DMV.

People please educate yourselves just a little bit.

Please tell us where a grownup who doesn't usually (never) do drugs, got it in their system? Died alone, 'on feet' after being out in a club. Was alone, so nobody could help.

Maybe drugged. It was happening on nyc nightclubs - people were roofied and robbed, etc.

No, I am not keeping narcan around. Where does it end? Do I need to carry a first aid around in case someone falls? I am not a nurse or doctor and I don't want to be sued.

+1 I don't either and won't in the future either.

I was thinking of keeping it in each car's glove compartment.
My kids are typical "good" high schoolers but they do go out on the weekends.

Oh wow.
Our definitions are very different.
To me “good” assumes a basic expectation that you’re obeying the law.
Narcan is to counteract an opioid overdose. This is “going out on the weekends” for “good” kids??
What you described sounds like “risky” high schoolers.
Maybe my standards are just too high.

But that said, it sounds like you know your kids. So if you think you have a need to have Narcan in your cars, better safe than sorry.

+1 Even if my kids had it on hand only to revive other people, I would question why my "good" kids were regularly in proximity of people who abuse opioids. What new-fangled definition of "good" is this?

We do have a lot of DCUM posters, likely trolls, who always post things to the effect that all kids past the age of 11 are having sex, drinking and doing drugs and anyone who thinks their 11+ yo kid is not doing any of that is naive. OP is probably one of those, yet again.

+1 my kids aren’t going to be administering Narcan to anyone. They would have no idea if it was medically necessary. Leave that to real doctors please.

According to the training I took on how to administer Narcan, if the person you use it on has not taken an opiate it will not work nor do any harm.

This is correct. It won't. There's no danger or liability issue.

This is hilarious. All you middle aged UMC class moms are more likely to be hit by lightning than with ever be in the visible vicinity of someone who has ODed AND during the small window of time when it is actually effective

Yeah, tell this to my kid's (not fancy) private school that is pushing all parents to attend a training and get narcan to keep at home.

I’m going to buy it - two to keep with me and two for my teen.

I think parents who think only bad kids do drugs or that an overdose can happen only to kids who willingly do drugs ate extreme naive.

Fentanyl can be found anywhere.

Wasn’t there a police officer who accidentally overdose on the stuff after grabbing a handful of what he thought was MM’s during a raid?

Even if your kid thinks he is just vaping, it can be laced with fentanyl.

Who would do that? Some seriously dumb cop. Buy your candy at a store!
