Is UVA really more of a party school than other big state colleges?

According to my nephews--recent grads at UVA, Tech and JMU--JMU is the most ridiculous party school of the 3.

I have two JMU grads. This is not accurate. There is certainly a party scene at JMU, but it's nowhere near as ridiculous as UVA.

On average, UVA kids are way brighter and more ambitious than your average state school students. Sure, there are frat parties and some students get drunk, but that is not the overall vibe. Acting like a d*ck is more likely to get you ostracized than heralded as a bro.

You can't be serious! "UVA kids are way brighter and more ambitious" than what kids and at what schools? Oh, I forgot, UVA is the BEST school to attend, PERIOD.

That poster is hilarious. Probably the usual booster with twins at UVA. So, so full of herself, it's embarrassing.

NP here. Of all the UVA grads I know persoanlly (f which there are many), the first thing they mention is the parties.

What are the top tier sororities and fraternities at UVA?

Strange. My UVA kid was a serious student and never mentioned any parties. But he wasn’t Greek.

There are no party schools in VA. This can't be serious.

It's so cute that you think your kid would discuss parties with you.

JMU comes the closest.

UVA and VA Tech are only "party schools" for the very wealthiest who attend.

Such a strange comment - and incorrect.

Yeah, i knew the moment I posted something like this (which is true, we are a very close family) a jerk like you, who has nothing else to offer here, would come along and say that. Not true. And UVA kid got into Oxford for grad work so did something right at UVA and it was not partying.

Oh, I should have known! It's the Oxford poster. Good grief, how many times have you repeated this?

Not only is it incorrect but it is classist. The students at UVA who party are the Greeks. The Greeks can come from all socio economic groups. If your kid (and the other 72% of the students who do not pledge) wants to find their own people and party on a level that is comfortable to them, they do. The people at the Corner drinking Thurs and Friday afternoon are the Greek men. My kid never once went there, in fact he had disdain for that group and setting.

You don't have to be "Greek" to party. Tons of kids - Greek or not - party at UVA.

Odd that you don't know how many UVA kids are at Oxford. UVA is the no. 1 public producer of Rhodes Scholars after West Point. It's no. 8 after the Ivies and West Point.
