Right. So you need to be finished with PreCalc by the time you are in 11th. Meaning taking Calc by 11th. |
Hi, PP. I'm not laying the blame at the feet of kids who did Algebra in 7th or 8th grade. It was the MCPS experts who seemed to feel that was a key part of the issue. And they seemed to believe that the compacted math instruction was causing kids to miss key skills, that inhibited their proficiency. I don't know why the MCPS staff are persuaded of this POV, but it's what they publicly spoke about in that board meeting. |
It is a useful distraction. Very effective. Perhaps they will share the test scores of the kids who took Algebra in 7th or 8th. Guaranteed that most are high achievers on the test. |
| We cannot continue to blame accelerated math for these low test scores. One has nothing to do with the other. |
Accelerated math is one of the few good things the county does. It has nothing to do with these problems. Most kids (more than half) at our DCC school were proficient. Those that weren't checked out during covid and had their parents to blame for their learning loss. Anyway, the county seems to be doing fine based on our school's scores. |
Of course they do but a lot of these kids learn differently and more hands on. There is a big difference learning algebra by building a set of stairs and learning algebra by finding out which train leaving Kansas City gets to St. Louis first. |
MCPS' own EOL data, DOESN'T confirm that kids are seriously behind in reading and math. You keep repeating that lie. |
Are you nuts? Gr 8: 2019 data ALL STUDENTS Literacy: 80% Math: 73% Gr 8: 2022 data ALL STUDENTS Literacy: 72.9% Math: 46.3% The data is here. MCPS, in its own statements, has admitted they have A LOT OF GROUND TO MAKE UP. What the hell are you talking about? At this point, I'm convinced you're a troll. But I just can't suss out what your goal is in denying reality. |
SOURCE: https://wtop.com/montgomery-county/2022/09/montgomery-co-schools-exceed-literacy-expectations-but-miss-target-for-math/ The only liar here is you. |
| I blame grade inflation and the pass along no matter what philosophy. You can't expect teachers to deal with assault in the classroom the firing them if they don't inflate the numbers or if they report violence. Its a recipe for disaster. Trust me, I have had to deal with this and behavior and academics go down the tube if e are pressured and threatened to fraud. |
Are you really that dumb ? Even the article you cited clearly stated "exceed-literacy-expectations...but missed target for Math ". No where did it say that "kids are seriously behind in reading and math ". 72% meet reading expectations, target was 66%. 61% meet math expectations, barely missing the target for math. You're not only a liar, but a dumb one at that. |
