Taking a year off before med school - to do very little

I think you pretty irritable with your son got order reasons snd I’m sure he picks up on your mild contempt and lack of confidence.

As to Plan-B, he will need at least an MS in Biology to do non-technician work in that field.

With an MS Bio, he could work for one of the biotech firms (e.g., along 270 north of Bethesda) and get decent pay. There eventually might be a glass ceiling without a PhD in Bio or Chem however. He also could do Federal civil service work at some place like FDA.

Would be much better to take the 1-year “MS Physiology” degree at Georgetown U. Get a good grade at that and one’s admissions chances for Medical School will be much higher. That program’s coursework is pretty aligned with 1st year of Med School.

I highly highly HIGHLY doubt that. Crazy talk.

I know a non-t RJ ivisl list of MDs who did exactly that MS Physiology program - and obviously it worked well for them.

It’s $60,000+! For one year!

For comparison sake, UNC Chapel Hill is under $30k/year COA.
