The actual distances are irrelevant. All that matters in terms of a boundary study is that all three high schools (Blair, Northwood, BCC) are reasonable distances from Takoma Park, DTSS, etc. |
Huh? My kid at Wheaton takes bus to Glenmont and metro to Takoma to get home all the time. Like a PP said, it's just outside of the TP city line. |
Sorry but distance matters. |
Who knew that BCC was so close to TKPK but even closer to Einstein? With the new addition at BCC and changes to their boundary because of Woodward that could really help with overcrowding in the DCC. |
| There's also the question of the Purple Line, which will make it much easier to get from DTSS to downtown Bethesda (BCC) once it's (finally) open. If they were smart, they would have high schoolers use the Purple Line rather than buses to get from some neighborhoods in and near DTSS to BCC. There will be lots of neighborhoods that are walkable to Purple Line stations. |
Even a few tenths of a mile? A few tenths of a mile matter? Why? |
+1 The opening of the purple line would bring a lot of new possibilities. A bunch of kids currently zoned for Northwood in DTSS apartment complexes would be able to walk to either the SS library or the SS Metro and ride directly to B-CC. It would be a 15 minute train ride as opposed to a 40 minute bus ride. |
No fair! We can't call it "busing" (or "bussing") that way! |
Going from Langley Park to BCC or any W would be super easy even! |
Yes, it isn't a coincidence that the boundary study will happen around the time the purple line opens, allowing the board to use diversity subwaying to help meet their goals. |
Damn you, Poe's Law. The Purple Line is light rail, by the way. It will run at street level almost everywhere. |
Yes, it literally is a coincidence. |
That will enable the board's secret plan to diversify west county schools! |
It's all starting to make sense!
|
Too bad Langley Park is in PG county.... |
