When our HHI was 400-500k, we had a $4800 mortgage.

When our HHI was 800k, we moved and had a 11000 mortgage.

We refinanced during Covid and our mortgage is now $8500 and HHI is $1-2m now.

I do believe it, for the most part. I live in a suburb of NY and am surrounded by incomes like that. Many big law partners, finance, PE, successful doctors, and entrepreneurs. Sometimes a household with two of the above. Or you’ll have a family making 500k+ with two mid level jobs in finance, marketing, consulting, programming, accounting, advertising etc.

And a decent amount of these people also receive gifts from family.

We’re mid 30s, make 500k in finance between 2 incomes, and will probably be making a decent amount more in a few years as we are both rising in the ranks of our organizations

Under $3K/month, but we bought 18 years ago. It was a fixer upper, needed a ton of work, so our housing expenses are higher than just the mortgage would indicate. Basically we started small on much lower salaries, and as our salaries have grown, we’ve poured excess funds into home improvements rather than moving. Refinanced a while back to get a better rate on a 15yr mortgage, and that’s due to be paid off in a few years. Still no plans to move anytime soon.

These weren’t entirely finance-driven decisions, we just love our neighborhood and the issues with the house have mainly been cosmetic, so had no reason to move.
