If your HHI is 400k what is your monthly mortgage?

We are $430, mortgage with taxes is $3400

WTf? We make $250K and our mortgage is $4500 (PITI). It's not "tight" at all. What are the rest of you spending your money on that your income is twice as much as ours and you can barely afford a $4000 mortgage payment?

425k, 6k mortgage. It’s fine.

with tax, insurance about 3.5k. But we bought when our HHI was lower, and also prepaid and re-fied to a low rate during the pandemic. We could pay more and it would be fine. One kid in daycare.

My guess would be childcare.

At least I’m honest.

We made more in the past, but health concerns had us pay off mortgage early, but only had a $400k balance left. 3 kids still in Middle and High school doing travel sports and a few vacations a year. We average $400K per year.

We put in $1000K per kid per month for 529, fully fund 401K plus backdoor Roth, and save about $7,000 per month. Money does feel tight, but mainly due to risk of only one surving spouse, and losing the bread winner, we need to save. And yes, we do have Term Insurance, but that will end in about 3 years.

Will you please share your budget? If you are saving 10k a month post tax (cash plus 529s), then you are spending only about 6 to 7K?

$400k HHI with a $2100 PITI on a small townhouse and a 2.5% rate.

Looking for a new house at a $5500-$6000 PITI. We will be fine but its going to hurt (Daycare + Catholic school tuition is the biggest extra expense)

$430K and a little over $6K payment. It’s comfortable and I love my house.

Do you pay for childcare? My FT daycare is $4,900/mo for 2 kids.

I was feeling great about our house and getting into the Arlington market 10 years ago when interest rates were low and prices were more reasonable (I’ve been reading the Real Estate board) … and then I wander over to this thread and feel like the only sucker with a high mortgage payment! Can’t win!
