I would avoid Brookland incl b/c the traffic but honestly the crime and the noise have been bad in the areas you mention.

DC MPD has a handy crime cards site where you can look up a particular address or area

https://crimecards.dc.gov/

Are you moving from an urban area, OP? How old are kids? Do you plan on public or private schools? House or apt?

Where did you live in DC before? That will help us gauge how good of a fit it may be for you.

CP — don’t live in the condos on Connecticut and Wisconsin. They’ve been getting really problematic so need to check out the building carefully. I really don’t like walking on the main strips any longer either.

I think for that Mr. Rogers feel it’s Woodley Park these days. And THs start at cool 2 mil

We lived in one of these neighborhoods briefly, and had not realized until we moved back to a very central WTOP location just how much low grade stress came with living in these neighborhoods. You are expected to embrace “city living” including to be aware and street smart (and for anyone who says that’s not true just look up the recent happenings in these neighborhoods). It’s not even the overt drug trade or a dodgy guy in the alley or a shooting or a knifing or rats or mosquitos or bulletproof glass at the local bodega or trash by the metro, it’s just a low grade siege mentality where you’re expected to have your “wits about you”. The relative feeling of equally “city living” in a place where you don’t have to look over your shoulder is just incomparable and hard to describe until you’ve felt it. I didn’t realize we and the kids were carrying this low grade subconscious stress until we moved and its absence was a huge relief. I would not live like that again.

NP - you are cute, PP. You really think you can let your guard down WOTP? Enjoy your naïveté and leave your doors unlocked and your trash cans open.

What on earth does this mean? Are you suggesting that someone is going to steal my trash? And that I should be concerned about it?

Yeah what?

I prefer Eastern Market area over Union Market.

there are lots of nyc transplant families scattered across the hill and hill adjacent areas. its walkable. its different than nyc but the culture shock (you are presumably used to city energy and having city amenities nearby) is a lot less than some other dc areas. the southern portion of the hill has great metro access. i on balance like south of H Street NE and navy yard with the river access somewhat better than NoMa/Union Market but there are lots of people moving into that northern capitol hill zone too.
