And that’s a fine attitude! But it doesn’t fly when people are begging for student loan forgiveness.

If my kid wants to become a k-12 teacher, I wouldn’t pay for elite college. But I can understand people doing this when money doesn’t matter much to them. It’s a limited resource for us so we don’t have the luxury to spend it on pure experiences.

I know people for example a guy who went to Yale and had some sort of humanities degree.
He couldn't have a real career for a long time, and finally became an high school teacher.

We make fun of him all the time.

I can pretty much guarantee he is less of a jerk than you are.

Yes when college is this expensive, ROI is king.

So to you, the human you were entrusted with raising is part of your investment portfolio.

Talk about messed up values!

So sick of the college student as consumer, ROI obsession. Education is inherently valuable.

For a year or two?

Teach for America is a two-year program but many participants keep teaching after that. My sister and my best friend from college both did.

I currently live in another city, and there is a public elementary school here that is run in conjunction with a local elite university. From perusing LinkedIn and the school’s directory, most of the school’s faculty & staff have BAs and/or MAs from that elite school or a different one. This is a city public school, not a suburban one, so teachers are not well-paid.

Would you be bothered if your child ended up doing that?

What “elite schools” offer degrees in elementary education?
What

Stanford, for one.

You don’t need to attend an expensive university in order to get the education required to be a teacher. In fact it is stupid to do so.
