PVS swimmers 13 and over don't swim 50 except for freestyle. But that does not mean they can't do 50 well. 50 fly at :50 is the easiest.
I think Blair took 70 out of 120 (35 boys and 35 girls) this season. |
Are those the minimum times to try out? Or the usual cuts to make the team? |
| Cuts |
yes they are |
| Going back to the question. Blair SMAC is a good program. we thought long and hard about having our DC accept. we had seen some bad experiences where kids realised it was not the right choice for them after a year and then just held on because of ego/fear of moving back to home school. Overall it was a good experience for DC. Not sure it helps in college admissions. and may have had much less stress in home school. The peer group is great if you can be among the top 50% of the kids but if you are in the bottom 30%, it is just a drag. |
Can someone explain this to me like I'm a small child. If a swimmer can make these times they are on the team even if it's way more than 70 kids? |
Yes |
How can a really good swimmer not make it on the team? |
Need to meet all cut-offs? Some are B cutoff and some are really easy |
| 100 free and then a 50 of their choice |
Mine too. Oh well. |
| What are the practice times? |
| TU/TH 5:00AM to 6:00AM at MLK |

Blair has a cool crew team - a club, not an official
School sport- that a swimmer might enjoy. Highly technical, on the water. My swimmer ended up doing crew at Blair and likes it a lot. |
Yours must not be club as I inquired about crew for my swimmer and you cannot do club sports or any other activity and crew. |
