Hi, OP. I’m a Cook’s Illustrated fan and I had a similar experience. I think most people are just looking for comfort food during a potluck.
I found with desserts, however, it helps to cut into and take a small piece of the dessert (to get it “started”), after which people usually will usually partake. |

Other easy options - fruit skewers or tomato/basil/mozzarella skewers. Anything easy to eat or finger foods go faster than a similar item that needs more effort.
Deviled eggs are always a hit but they are such a pain to make! I hate peeling eggs and I don’t seem to have the secret to not get gross looking eggs because my peeling is so bad. |
