Who actually buys grocery store bread and why?

I don't. Grocery store bread is for philistine people.

But every time I'm in a grocery store the bread section is MASSIVE. It sort of grosses me out. Why buy that crap for $3 to 6 when a good bakery loaf is maybe $5 to 8?

OP -- it's obvious that you haven't had sex in at least a decade. Next time you're out, skip the bakery and go get yourself a good vibrator instead.

I mill my own wheat, just like the hipsters grind their own coffee.

I pity you and your wonderbread.

Honestly, I love plain old grocery store white bread - wonderbread or something similar.

Bakery bread is overrated.

We don't typically buy bread lol. We just don't eat it. I do make biscuits from scratch weekly, which are delicious. We're just not big bread people.

The real question is why aren’t you growing your own wheat, milling your own flower, baking your own bread? I can’t believe you actually buy your bread! The horror!!

We get our bread fresh from the bakery every day. Of course we throw it out when it gets room temperature.

Who actually only buys bakery bread and why?

Sliced bread in a plastic bag TIL I DIE

I do. Two loaves a week. Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse. You are going to have to live with that knowledge, OP.

Not in the DC area but we get local artisan bread from our farmers' market on Saturdays. The bread is naturally leavened and the quality is so amazing I have no qualms dropping $7 for a loaf. We used to get bread from our local supermarket bakery but there's a real difference in quality. We have travelled a lot in Europe and the artisan stuff is very comparable to the kind of baked goods you get in Europe. I make a lot of my own foods such as kimchi and tempeh but don't really care about baking my own bread. I'm soo happy that there are people in my community who I can support by buying their great-quality bread.

This.

Because my kids have deathly nut allergies and no bakery remotely near me guarantees that their bread may not contain trace amounts of nuts.

I guess the thought of my kids dying “kind of grosses me out.”

I buy whole foods whole wheat bread. Works for me. My goal is to simplify my life not add errands.
