Yes, DC moved off the wait list for AET today. |
Is it possible to not get into AOS but get into TJ, or is that a suburban legend? |
Yes, that’s possible. DC and four of his friends were admitted by TJ in the first round. Out of the five, one was offered admission to AOS in first round. Two were offered admission to AOS in 2nd round (initially wait listed). Two were never offered admission to AOS. |
AET is less pretentious than AOS according to many sources. Average SAT score of AET graduates is also lower than AOS. But it seems it is more difficult to get into AET than AOS. Quite a few kids were offered admission to AOS, but waitlisted or declined by AET. Anyone knows why? |
It varies from year to year. It does seem like AET is more in demand now, but a few years ago it was AOS. |
Definitely. AOS does a better job of taking top students from within a school, even with its maximum quota per school |
Indeed. DC received his AOS offer in April. But he was only moved off the AET waitlist last week. Two kids we know received offers from AOS and AET concurrently. Both eventually chose AET. |
My neighbor went to TJ because he didn't get accepted to AOS/AET |
I know several students who would have preferred to go to TJ but were only accepted to AOS/AET. Wish there was an option to swap. |
Even AOS and AET can’t be swapped. The only swap can be done is among different tracks within AET. |
AOS, AET Engineering and AET Information Technology are all four year commitments. No way to to switch within these tracks, unless student withdraws from these four year programs and reapplies in junior year to two year advanced AET programs.
AET Entrepreneurship is also a four year program which includes first two years of entrepreneurship courses, and for last two years they get a choice of picking either Advanced AET -Engineering or Advanced AET - Information Technology. For students who dont get into AET/AOS in 9th grade, they get a second chance to apply to the two year Advanced AET - Engineering or IT in 11th & 12th grades. These two programs are same choices offered to AET entrepreneurship students for their final two years. |
PP wished those who were admitted by TJ but wanted to go to AOS/AET could swap with those admitted by AOS/AET but wanted to go to TJ. That is swapping before school starts. You are right once school starts, there’s no possibility of swapping. But before school starts, students can swap between different tracks within AET if they can form a pair who desire a mutual swap. |
Any movement still happening from waitlist or should we just assume it’s not happening? |
At this point, probably they are done. |
Can someone link to or speak more about the lawsuit that was mentioned a few pages back? Something to do with the equity/quota policy for spots feeding into the Academies from each Loudoun MS? |
