SNL - Bowen Yang not funny

Alex’s Tucker Carlson was incredible this week.

I like Bowen and find him funny but I find him a bit one dimensional as well. It's possible that he may get more opportunities to branch out in the future.

Melissa Villasenor is hit or miss, but she can be extremely funny and I like how she brings a different energy to the show. Much prefer her compared to Sarah Sherman.

I miss Beck Bennett but James Austin Johnson has been one of the best additions to this show in years.

Hadn't been much of a fan of Chris Redd until I saw the Eric Adams bit a few weeks ago. One of the best political skits in years, especially as a primarily solo non-ensemble piece.

I haven’t seen many of her skits yet, but everything about that woman makes alarm bells ring in my head. Like flashing “stay away” lights.

Melissa Villasenor gets funnier the more I see her. I enjoy her hobbies skit with Emma Stone.

He’s great.

Pete Davidson is not. I guess he checks the white untalented box.

no need to be racist

He does not have to even speak sometimes….his facial expression just cracks me up.

He was the best iceberg character.

I miss Beck.
Wonder why he left the show?? Hope he returns as a guest star for future programming.
Miss Pete, show seems dead and empty without his star power and charm.

Glad to see Kate back since earlier in the season I had not seen much of her.
Chris Redd is actually getting better each season.

Oh, I much prefer it when he's not there. The Chad shorts were funny the first two or three times, but he's a weak addition to any live sketch.

That was one of my all-time favorite SNL sketches ever!!!!!

I also loved him in the bug assembly sketch.

But everything else has seemed lame or derivative- just not special or funny to me. He needs to rely less on the over-the-top gay persona. Again, it totally worked in those two sketches, but in any others.

The only reason Bowen Yang got cast was for diversity. He is not funny at all. He is more an understudy for a regional improve group.

He’s funny half the time?

I’m boycotting for this season unless I hear about something that is hilarious. I just think they diversity-hired. Diversity is about being open to different backgrounds but hiring the best. (And making sure you aren’t discounting POC, etc. so early on and not giving them a chance).

It’s why the NBA is diverse but not filling roles BASED on diversity.

Snl is doing that, and it sucks.

He’s awful. Antithetical to edgy comedy. He is safe PC comedy.

He's both funny and one dimensional. His facial expressions and voice tone are pretty funny when playing a character that is over the top gay. But that's all he does - play over the top gay characters. He needs to expand a bit more.

The diversity casting is killing SNL.

The Iceberg was an instant SNL classic. Beyond funny, at least to me.

But I think a lot of what he’s done since then are just variations on the same theme. He needs to branch out.
