$2K a year in maintenance sounds like a Curse indeed.

I have a 2013 Subaru Outback. I'm about to pay ~$1000 for major service and getting the rear brake pads replaced. The only other service I've had on it this year was an oil change in July. I got new tires last year, the front brake pads replaced the year prior. I don't think I've really had any other major expenses on it. Not sure where your $2K a year is coming from - could you elaborate?

We also have a 2007 Honda, though our other car is a 2020. Prior to buying that car two years ago, both of our cars were 2007.

Another 20007 Honda here!

2000 Mazda. Original owner. First and only car I've owned. 287,000 miles on it. In the past year or so she hasn't seemed quite as stable. Something seems off underneath the front but our mechanic can't figure out what the issue is and I don't want to spend dealership money repairing whatever they find. Figure we will likely have to get a new car in another year or so. DH drives a 2005 Acura.

You can buy brake pads for an Outback for $89. It takes about 20 minutes to install them. I just did this Christmas weekend when the weather was nice.

What other major service are you talking about?
