VGA arrived in mail today

There’s a vertical scale score but no chart that says what that shows. Anyone else find details on how to interpret? Letter says if I have questions to ask her teacher but with winter break that’s not going to happen for a bit. Thanks!

I took a look at it, read the notes on it, and threw it right in the trash where it belongs. There's no way that asking a kid 12 math questions can give any insight into how they're doing.

I recall this all proved the kids did not learn much math last year. My kid has an A in algebra now.

Not sure how to put all of this together.

The scores do not line up to the posted links

Those are the Reading and Math Inventory scores, not the VGA.

Regarding the discussion on elementary kids scoring at the 8th grade level....

The point of these scaled scores was so that we could see a progression from year to year and not just a "pass/fail" score each year. We're SUPPOSED to see the score go up each year. So these kids who are scoring so high already...what do we do when they score lower next time? Is it bad if their scores goes down even though they may still be above the proficiency level? No one has explained how to utilize this information long term which was the entire reason for the shift to these types of scores.

NP here. I’m wondering the same thing. My 3rd grader scored >1720 in reading and >1530 in math. What am I supposed to expect in the next few year? It only makes sense to go up, I suppose? And if the high scores don’t necessarily translate to higher grade level, what’s the point of even using computer adaptive testing and frustrating the kids?

Yep. Was this test even vetted? It certainly is not being explained very well to the parents. What a complete waste of time! No one is even using this for anything.
