Regarding the discussion on elementary kids scoring at the 8th grade level.... The point of these scaled scores was so that we could see a progression from year to year and not just a "pass/fail" score each year. We're SUPPOSED to see the score go up each year. So these kids who are scoring so high already...what do we do when they score lower next time? Is it bad if their scores goes down even though they may still be above the proficiency level? No one has explained how to utilize this information long term which was the entire reason for the shift to these types of scores.
NP here. I’m wondering the same thing. My 3rd grader scored >1720 in reading and >1530 in math. What am I supposed to expect in the next few year? It only makes sense to go up, I suppose? And if the high scores don’t necessarily translate to higher grade level, what’s the point of even using computer adaptive testing and frustrating the kids?
