Then the usual posters jumped right in to rip our house to shreds, then the pendulum swung back and other PPs weighed in on how nice it was. We sold it too soon! We listed it right before the boom and sold it for $900k, it would probably get $1.2 today. Sigh.

On the bright side though, you probably also bought low. Whatever you purchased has likely also appreciated quite a bit, I would assume.

I bet it must have been hard to read some of the negative comments at the end of the day our home is our sanctuary...even if it's quirky or outdated or whatever to someone else.

DCUM has such awful taste that anything negative they said about my house I'd take as a compliment. You could post Fallingwater and they'd call it a dated teardown s*itshack with too much airplane noise and suggest you build a hideous McMansion right up to the property line so every family member can have 3,000 square feet and they never have to interact with their horrible spouse and spoiled children.

I agree with the calling Fallingwater a s*itshack part but not about building a McMansion part. DCUM hates McMansions! They would instead suggest one buys a tiny house someplace walkable instead of Bear’s Run.

I swear, I feel like I stumbled into a post from a different dimension...

Popville??
ArlNow??
Fallingwater??

Is it because I'm a transplant to the area, or just an idiot? I've truly never heard of any of these. 😁

Are you a transplant from somewhere frank lloyd wright doesn’t exist?

NP.
Someone from outside of the area asks a genuine question, and you have to answer in a sarcastic, unhelpful & rude way?
You're the exact person that gives the DC area a bad name...

and what exactly does Popville & Arlnow have to do with Frank Lloyd Wright anyway???
What a ridiculously bizarre comment.
People like this seem so miserable to me and have to make everyone else miserable around them.
Awful troll effort = 0

PP that asked, the first two are local Virginia magazines and the last as you've learned from the obnoxious pp, is a home built by FLW.
Happy New Year!

Popville and ArlNow are two blogs whose comment sections are filled with the area's stupidest, most racist people. Popville does zero actual reporting, just steals stuff from other sources and slaps his name on it, while ArlNow actually does do reporting. You should avoid both.

Thanks very much to the both of you, who took the time to answer my question directly.
Your kind & informative answers are very much appreciated.

To the poster who felt the need to be snarky to me... maybe it's because I've just moved here from Montana, but I just wondered WHY someone would need to be obnoxious & snarky to a newcomer, simply for asking an innocuous question?

Unnecessary arrogance? Uh, yes.
Major insecurities? Clinically.
Imposter syndrome? Most likely.
A miserable d!ck? Oh, definitely.

Oh, and thanks for the warm welcome!
I can only hope that everyone in DC is just as lovely & hospitable as you are. 🤡

I love that house, and I’m so glad you kept that awesome wallpaper!

It's a great house ) ty

Have you updated it?

Not much. Got rid of the carpet. Had to replace all major appliances. Electric. I want to modify the kitchen, but keep the basics.

Had to look this up to see the wallpaper. Great house! And charming wallpaper

Yes - I bought and sold last spring at the height of the crazy and both houses were discussed on here.

The house I was selling was beloved (by me as well!!!), and the post was primarily to get info on the neighborhood because it was in a less known area. Interestingly the people who bought it were from out of town.

The house I bought is a newish build with really lovely but very overdone design choices (lots of white, marble, craftsman). It’s beautiful but lacks the great character of like a Joanna Gaines farmhouse. It was discussed here because it was really overpriced and sat for a long time. Most people had positive things to say about the design, but some people absolutely thrashed the lack of originality. We ended up bidding low and getting an okay price (but still paid too much - see: last spring).

Anonymous wrote:Our house was discussed about 5 years ago when we purchased it. At the time, other bidders found the thread and talked about how insane we were to go so far above asking. But we just sold it for almost $300K more than we paid for it and did almost nothing to the property.

where!

Our DC house was discussed here and nearly everyone thought it was overpriced because it was on a "busy" road. In other words, a road that gets a little bit of traffic but everyone here basically said it was like living directly on the Beltway.

Went $125k over asking.
