My new car payment is $1,000

There is no rule saying you have to get the loaded one. If you do get the loaded one, it comes with the loaded price, obviously.

What is the question?

OP, I have always been in the “low-income” bracket.

I have NEVER had a brand spanking new ride.
But if I could afford to - I would definitely buy new over used.

Because all used vehicles have a history.
Either good or bad.
It’s like a crapshoot.

You can possibly get a great bargain in the long run.
Or you may just inherit another person’s headache.
It’s like a financial gamble.

At least w/a brand-new car you do not have to be stressed over if it will start up every morning.
You cannot attach a price tag on peace of mind. 😄

A new Highlander is literally $56 off the lot. And that’s only if you can find a dealership that has one, and you get what you get, no choosing your colors or interior options etc. if they have one on the lot that’s what u get

I *literally* just drove a new AWD Highlander XLE off the lot for 35k. Paid cash. Financing 60k is absurd.

I call BS. The MSRP on 2021 AWD XLE is $41K+. If you bought the car in VA, you would have had to pay approx $33,000 + tax, title, fees. There is no way you got a $8,000 discount off MSRP right now, unless you forgot to mention a trade in or downpayment.

I'm in the market and just want to know where. Highlanders are one of the cars that we're looking at and getting anything more than a token amount off of MSRP seems hard right now.

I call BS too. We’ve been car shopping too. No Highlanders for under 40k.

+1. You can barely find a used one.

Sorry not sure what to tell you. It’s true. Albeit not in Virginia - moved south recently and there’s loads of them here.

Still think this is BS. I live in the South too. We’ll just have to not believe each other.

I live in TX and have been looking for cars for DS. I’ve seen 2018 Highlanders for $35k but not newer ones.

The sure fire way to settle this - is to post your sales contract. Redact your personal info. Until you do so, its BS. People in the south drive SUVs. I doubt they have a glut of inventory that would justify an $8000 discount on a brand new car.

You definitely did not buy your car in MD, norther VA or DC. That price does not exist for an XLE highlander off the lot.

Anonymous wrote:What was the price of the new car? Did you trade in the 2 old cars? What was their value? If no trade in, how much $$ did you put down on the new vehicle?

Price was $60,000 no money down and no trade in

Just...wow. First of all, you don't need an SUV just because you have two kids. Second of all, you don't have to spend $60k on one. You can actually buy one for half that. Third, what happened to the money from selling the other cars?

So much fiscal stupidity in one post is pretty rare.

I haven’t had a car payment since 2009. Every car since then I’ve just paid cash+trade balance.

Car payments are for losers. If you have to finance a vehicle, you shouldn’t be buying that vehicle.

I’d rather pay 1% on my 90,000 and earn 10-20% in the market.

I completely agree with this. We bought a new Sienna in June and it was $45k.

Also agree. Paid $45k out the door for a new Odyssey Touring (not the top trim, but I think second most expensive) a couple months ago. Traded in our 10-year old Odyssey for half the price we paid for it new 10 years ago. So net cost was less than $20k.

OP, did you not sell at least one of your cars? You should've made a killing on that!

What is your hhi? I mean if you earn 500k, whatever. If you can’t actually afford this,?then you are stupid.

Mine too. I feel very fortunate I can do that monthly $999 debit from my checking account.

Except we all know you’re not earning even 10%.

DAMN, OP.
This is why I buy good used vehicles. I paid 5200 bucks cash for an awesome car in May, 2020, have put thousands of miles on it since then, and I expect it to last me a lot longer than 5 years. I refuse to have a car payment.

The MSRP for a new 2022 Toyota Highlander is 35k. I’m not sure how even off the lot you’d end up paying 60k unless you are choosing the highest trim level or something like that.
