The police not acting? Where in GV do you live? They are always cruising |
Not the PP, but I am in GV and rarely see police (I live near the mosque). Lots of fire trucks, no police. |
The police are responsive, and there has been an increase in patrols and presence. I don't think they are turning a blind eye to what is happening.
We live in Green Valley and there are five young families on our street alone that have moved in over the last 8 or so years. All of the families are nice and the community is nice. Including those who have been long time residents and aren't newer transplants. It's unfortunate that the entire neighborhood gets characterized as "bad" because of incidents that stem from the Shelton alone. You do get more bang for your housing buck though! |
It’s rare I see police or first responders by my house. I see a lot by Drew park, the elementary school and near the Lucky 7. |
Where in Green Valley? We need to find the young families so we can move closer. |
Not PP but there are lots of young families between Walter Reed and 22nd st on Monroe, Nelson, Oakland, Oxford and Pollard. I agree with PP that I do love living in this neighborhood, despite the issues at Drew Park. We have some good neighbors (and we were able to form a community/neighborhood garden this year, which has been a ton of fun). |
Also several young families along the 25th St S/S Lincoln/Kenwood loop. |
There’s also a chance for a lot of incoming families moving to the area. So many places have recently sold including some new build townhouses. There is also a few places still up for sale and I assume a handful of them will be occupied by families. Fingers crossed. |
Good luck there! I also don’t think there is a lot of inventory in GV with a decent price tag …… considering …….. |
Not sure what your Arlington real estate expectations are. A quick search shows four available properties in GV currently at the 500-900k range. One older duplex 3/2, two 3/3 townhouses in Shirlington Crest, and one 4/3 duplex. Shirlington Crest and 4/3 duplex were built in 2008 and 2013. That seems to track pretty favorably for being in Arlington, walkable to Shirlington and easily accessible to 395/Pentagon/Amazon/DC. |
It is all in the eye of the buyer. Does someone want to pay $800 to $900k for a duplex or townhouse (or even a single family) where people are posting about gunshots and debating safety. maybe or maybe not. Let us all watch and see how long they have been/will sit. |
