Is this now a thing? The good news is that I see almost everybody in my DC circle of life wearing masks. The distressing thing is that wearing masks under your nose seems to be a new thing. I have been proud of DC resident's general attitude towards dealing with the pandemic. By in large I think that most of us are trying to everything we can to get through this. But this mask sagging is becoming more and more prevalent. Basically people are saying "leave me alone, I have a mask on my face." But in reality they are defeating the entire point of wearing a mask.
I realize that mask wearing has become political. That is why I am posting it in the DC politics forum. But I am starting to get frustrated that we simply cannot do the easy things correctly. |

It is called going "nose commando" and it is a thing.

The elastic in some of mine needs a few stitches to retighten them.
I think many people need to alter their masks a little as frequent wearing and laundering can change the size. |
This. Plus many don’t have nose wires and don’t fit well to begin with. I’m seeing a lot of masks that are too thin as well, especially the cooling neck gaiter styles. A family member was wearing one the other day, you can see through them.

In an Atlantic article, an author describe dropping your mask under your nose as:
Wearing a condom but only on the shaft. |
You can use big paperclips to connect your mask across the back and tighten it up. I have a box to use with masks I haven't had the chance to alter yet. I think some of the sagging masks are masks not fitting properly, and some are people trying to make some stupid statement, and some are people being dumb. |
| Are you people even slightly aware of how ridiculous you sound? Mask logistics? haha |

I'll apologize up front that this period of pandemic is making me a little more jaded.
Two things have been proven over the last four months. The percentages of two groups of people are Much larger than I had thought. 1. Selfish people 2. Stupid people It is that selfish group that are really kicking us right now. They know the rules but can't be bothered. They are worried about fogging their glasses or the mask exacerbating their asthma. They can't be bothered to pull the mask over their nose. The stupid people by and large you can approach and they will wear a mask properly, they are just stupid and did not realize it had fallen. This does not include the militant groups on either side of the spectrum. They are selfish. |

Selfishness has shown no bounds during this pandemic.
And you simply cannot ask somebody to raise their mask over their nose or they will whip out a camera and Karen you. Just not worth it. The selfish have won. It has been coming for a while, but COVID put it over the top. |
| The Mayor said today to call the police for face mask violations. |
Good thing we defunded them. |
| Mask elastic stretches out just like your gym shorts. |
90% of 911 calls are for non violent crimes. |
While it is true that science denying, government hating Trumpster conservatives are responsible for 150,000 Covid 19 deaths and countless lives that are forever disabled from the coronavirus, I have learned from living in Columbia Heights during the pandemic is that anti-masking spans all races, ages, genders and income levels. I am infuriated to see so many people walking around the neighborhood not wearing masks. Even around the busy parts near 14 and Irving. Residents of my building have generally done a very good job making sure they wear masks while on the property, there's always a pair of guys and one woman who refuse to wear masks when on the property. |
