We have two children turning 4 and 6 soon. Thinking we want to keep them at home this school year and hire a teacher to come in to teach them. We’d want the teacher to be here the full school day, 9-3ish. What should we expect to pay for this, and how would we go about finding a teacher? |
You and the rest of the country. Homeschool shouldnt be 6 hours a day either btw..... |
Your six year old isn’t in preschool.
You are looking for a nanny, really. |
OP here. I should have probably said "early childhood" teacher then. I'm looking not for a nanny per se - Ie I don't need the person to make meals, do laundry, etc but to come up with a structured curriculum that the kids follow to replace the in-school experience. If possible and legally permitted I wouldn't mind having two other children from like-minded families join in. |
No less than $40/hr and health benefits. |
So that’s $60k plus health benefits the parent has to pay? Plus parent has to pay the social security employer portion of the taxes just like for a nanny. |
If you could find a teacher willing to work you know you wouldn't need for them to be "in school" from 9-3. The reason school is that long is because kids move from class to class and have lunch. So they are counting on times where there is no learning. My siblings homeschool and they can do everything in 2-4 hours. But, the benefit of homeschooling is you can make any time a learning opportunity! Doubt you are going to find someone. Just isn't worth it to the teacher. |
I’m a preschool teacher and tutor on the weekends. No preschool age child needs 9-3. You might just need a caretaker. |
OP here. I agree preschool children don't necessarily need 9-3, but working parents do. Also we are hoping schools will be in a more normal state next fall, and it would be helpful to have them used to a school day schedule too. |
Please send your six year old to kindergarten, op. |
