Teacher bashing

Jeff, there is a ton of teacher bashing going on in many different threads on the site. Is there anything that can be done about that? Should I just report each one? It's really upsetting and demoralizing.

I haven’t done much teacher bashing (maybe once or twice??) but I totally understand it. I’m a nanny and had to basically teach the kids myself for 3 months because the distance ‘learning’ was so awful. You don’t think people should be able to talk about that?

Heaven forbid someone have an opinion different than yours.

I’ve seen some posts objected to as teacher bashing when someone has argued lots of essential employees who can’t effectively work remotely have had to go to work, why should teacher expect to be different?

You can agree with that or not, but it hardly seems like a beyond the pale argument that should get shut down.

The comments aren’t about challenges about distance learning and are more along the lines of calling teachers lazy, entitled and worse. Their concerns about returning to work are shared by workforces everywhere and they don’t deserve to be mocked relentlessly.

Moreover there is nothing to indicate fall DL will be like Spring DL. In fact what we know already is it won’t be.

The teachers failed to show they could teach.
They could have stepped up and done real teaching
6 hours a day on zoom.

They didn’t. They will always have that negative image now.

Teachers, at least in mcps barely called it in.

They should have gone above and beyond and taught live.

They weren’t allowed to. Our teacher who did try to go above and beyond got reprimanded for going beyond what was allowed.

OP, I'm sorry for the extra stress. If Jeff advises to report posts individually, I will make an effort to do so when I see them.

Extra stress? From DCUM posts suggesting DL is ineffective and teachers should get back to the classroom, like lots of other people? Are we that fragile?

I said "extra" stress, not "overwhelming" stress.

Extra can be a trivial amount. It's just extra.

OP here-- it's demoralizing to see how low parents regard the teachers who care for their children, especially when most of us do want to go back to work. But we want to do it safely. Anyway, there has been a lot of nastiness towards teachers lately on this site and I find it depressing. I will start reporting it every time, I guess.

How many of the responses to this thread do you think are objectionable enough to report?

Why do people bash teachers? Whether to go back or not isn't teachers' call. They have right to be concerned about their own health just like each one of us. Miserable parents.

Heck, if I were you OP. I'd report ALL of them and let Jeff decide. He is usually pretty good at deleting offensive posts.

No I think the stress is because many — the vast majority — were really nasty and resentful and conveyed and attitude that the poster viewed the teacher as some sort of personal servant.

Fine, but when I complain about my weight and harp on about that one chocolate chip I ate, you are going to think I’m pretty silly for complaining about it even though it was an “extra” few calories, even though not an “overwhelming” number of calories. Your complaint about a trivial amount of added stress is equally silly.
