Teacher bashing

I’ve seen some posts objected to as teacher bashing when someone has argued lots of essential employees who can’t effectively work remotely have had to go to work, why should teacher expect to be different?

You can agree with that or not, but it hardly seems like a beyond the pale argument that should get shut down.

I agree. I am generally a fan of teachers, but people are allowed to have their opinions. DCUM is their anonymous voice to gripe. Should not be censored.

Anyway, there has been a lot of nastiness towards teachers lately on this site and I find it depressing. I will start reporting it every time, I guess.

How many of the responses to this thread do you think are objectionable enough to report?

Heck, if I were you OP. I'd report ALL of them and let Jeff decide. He is usually pretty good at deleting offensive posts.

My issue is that you view these as offensive. You can agree or disagree that teachers should be back in the classroom (or face pay cuts commensurate with the reduced work time) but the idea that these viewpoints are offensive and should be censored is ridiculous.

That's why you report. It doesn't mean Jeff will delete but, here, he is the judge.

Extra stress? From DCUM posts suggesting DL is ineffective and teachers should get back to the classroom, like lots of other people? Are we that fragile?

I said "extra" stress, not "overwhelming" stress.

Extra can be a trivial amount. It's just extra.

Fine, but when I complain about my weight and harp on about that one chocolate chip I ate, you are going to think I’m pretty silly for complaining about it even though it was an “extra” few calories, even though not an “overwhelming” number of calories. Your complaint about a trivial amount of added stress is equally silly.

If someone is posting about your extra chip and crossing a line, then I will happily offer to report it. Deal?

OP here again-- it's fine for people to have different ideas about schools reopening. But a lot of posts are are very nasty and insulting. I would not report any comments on this thread, honestly. Compared to some of the other posts I've seen, it's really not that bad.

He is, and notice I didn’t say it would violate anyone’s First Amendment rights because I had a good teacher for civics. But I find it sad that you would bother reporting people for having a different opinion than you and I hope Jeff won’t shutter legitimate discussion.

If everyone is just one big amen chorus where only one viewpoint is allowed, it doesn’t make for much of a site.

Are you new here? This is a privately owned site. First amendment doesn't work here.

Are you illiterate? I said it would NOT violate anyone’s first amendment rights for the reason you mentioned.

Listen, I don't want to argue with you. Just be nice to people and you don't have to worry about anything. People don't report others because they have different opinions. People report when posts are offensive.

Ironic that you say you don’t want to argue and are telling me to be nice when you condescendingly asked if I was new here and assumed I didn’t understand that the First Amendment only applies to government action, not private websites. Pot, kettle.

And the issue is that people seem to have a very robust notion of what constitutes offensive and seem willing to report things with which they simply disagree.

If you find my post condescending, you can report too. I am okay with that. Again, anyone can report. If you are being offensive or obnoxious you have nothing to worry about.

DP

I doubt this would be a new experience for Jeff, and I have boundless faith that he will handle it well.
