| Given the options, we would like our kids (ES and MS) not to enroll next year and take a gap year instead. Would MoCo allow? |
| No idea, but seems like social suicide for your kids if your plan is for them to be a grade level behind everyone else in the 2021-22 school year. Keep them in whatever version of school happens -- they will be no further ahead or behind than anyone else. |

Umm. No.
Delaying a year of ES/MS/HS is very different than delaying college. |
| Not legally, but I don’t think there would really be any consequence if you did. This has come up in a few other posts. |
| Not legal |
For this age group, home school them. |
My friend’s kid in another state took their high school senior year off and studied in a foreign country. They came back after it and did senior year. This was 3 years ago, so no pandemic. |
The consequences would be that teachers will start losing their jobs. I realize some people may not care about that but that’s the reality. |

It’s not up to MCPS. They are required to teach the kids that show up at the appropriate level.
Is it legal? You have to consult the laws of your state. Say you are homeschooling, follow those rules whatever they are -usually lax - then register your kid when you are ready. |
Not enough people would want to do this to lead to teachers losing jobs. |
| I don’t know about MD but in most states you can drop out at 16 or 17 |
| No, legally you’d have to register as homeschooling, and then if you return he following year, your kids would be slotted back in with their class on the assumption that you actually did homeschool them. |
How many 16 and 17 yo ES students do you know? |
|
You mean you wouldn't be homeschooling? Just no school for the kids for that year? Has nothing to do with MoCo. The state of Maryland would not allow it and you could go to jail. |
