Preschool postponed opening

Anonymous
We JUST switched day cares/preschool. We put down $2000 deposit and they have postponed opening until Sept due to FCPS scheduled which they follow. I am so frustrated. They will also charge us for the missed two weeks. FCPS is doing this for training logistical needs which doesn’t apply to day care/ preschool.

Anyone else?

Should I just get a nanny?

If you want consistent, uninterrupted care - yes.

I am just so tired and frustrated. We literally just switched our child for logistical reasons (the current one was open!) but we needed different hours and location due to tele-work. I feel cheated that they JUST took our money and then 8 hours later make this announcement. I am just so tired and now so angry at them. They don’t have the scheduling/logistical/training issues and using the “we follow FCPS” seems like an excuse.

Ugh.

I’m sorry. I’d be frustrated too. The reasons for FCPS delaying have nothing to do with preschools so yes, it seems like quite the cop out to delay.

This has to be the funniest quote on all of DCUM. An nanny is far from consistent, interrupted care. They are one person and get sick with no additional nanny to substitute. They have personal issues with no substitute. They are tired with no co teacher to help so any type of programming suffers. And they get vacation and holidays. Finally they can leave you without warning with no backup. Hilarious statement.

Except any school that follows FCPS will end up closing on a whim. The leadership is terrible and can’t be trusted to make reasonable decisions. Op’s preschool is apparently blindly following them, which I would not be happy with. In the middle of a pandemic, I’d say a nanny is far more likely to provide consistent care than any school that follows FCPS.

Most preschools are September to June.

OP - it is even more frustrating reading posts parents whose preschools are currently open. This may have been better if they had sent an email with an explanation - not just we follow FCPS. Especially since they have our deposits.

At least they gave you a date! Ours hasn't given us a reopening date yet, nor any assurance that our children may remain enrolled next school year.

Ours in starting early!!! And we will miss the opening as we will be away. So that sucks that we have to pay for more than 3 weeks we will miss.

They’re trying to be helpful. And people should not be going “away” right now.

So you are away, but that is awesome.
