MD Public Schools other than MCPS
| I see MOCO has a draft plan. Do you think ours will be similar? |
| I hope so and we will choose 100% distance learning! |
There is a town hall later this week and I hope she has something to share. Given the option, we would do a hybrid for one of my kids but may do 100% online for the other 2. |
|
Supposed to be announced tomorrow at 2 pm
Rumor is we will start all virtual. But teachers will need to report to school daily and teach from school! Just a rumor so far. |
| Actually tomorrow at noon I think. |
This is actual the truth. 100% distance learning. Teachers report for live instruction. |
100% distant until end of January. Reevaluation on Dec 1 as to whether there can be hybrid model starting on Feb 1. |
| As a teacher and a parent, I dislike this very much. How am I supposed to assist my own children of PGCPS (kindergarten and 2nd grade) and report to school in order to teach live? |
|
Yup...starting virtual

I heard her say "teachers MAY return to school to teach" not "teachers MUST return to school to teach".
|
| I don’t understand why teachers would need to go into school buildings and teach from their classrooms. Teaching at home via a laptop, with the use of a document camera should be sufficient. What is the reasoning behind having dozens of adults congregate in the same building, potentially exposing themselves to sickness? How is being in the classroom a safer and better situation than teaching from home? |

NEWS | PGCPS will begin the 2020-2021 school year on Monday, August 31 with distance learning for all grades. Distance learning will continue through the first and second quarters with a goal to return to school buildings in February to begin the third quarter.
Distance learning will be enhanced to include instruction five days a week and more live lessons to supplement pre-recorded lessons. Breakout sessions will support students with special needs and English language learners. All students will be equipped with their own digital device, Wi-Fi hotspots will be distributed and we will continue to cover the cost of internet access for families in need through our Connect PGCPS initiative. Additional resources will include Parent Support Centers throughout the county to assist families with tech support and other aspects of distance learning. Student meals will be offered for twice-weekly pickup at all schools. Conditions will be reassessed in December and families will be offered the option to continue distance learning or begin a hybrid learning model of two days of in-person/three days of distance learning for 3rd and 4th quarters. Next week, we will share plans to support English language learners, students with special needs and youth from low-income families throughout distance learning. Please visit www.pgcps.org/reopen for updates. Thank you for your continued support. |
| So, it sounds like they are assuming there will be no full-time in-person classes at all for the whole year? I assumed that this was a potential scenario depending on how things continue to play out, but it seems early to rule it out now for the last two quarters of the school year. |
They have the option to go in. My sister is a teacher and lives in a small condo with her husband also working from home. They’re in the process of buying a house, but until then she would love to be able to go into her classroom to work. She wants to be able to spread out her stuff for teaching and not have it be in the way. Anything that makes this easier works for me, especially if the buildings are open for meal pickup anyway. |
+1. She said that teachers have the option of returning to their classrooms to teach their online classes. |
