Should the DMV metro area become a state?

Anonymous
Instead of statehood for just DC, maybe the whole DC metro region should become a state on its own. DC, NoVa and the Maryland beltway counties all become one state. The DMV area faces many similar issues (federal workers, transit, economics) and might be better as an entire state on their own instead of tied up with Richmond and Annapolis where the needs of this area get diluted. Rest of Virginia would become Republican and Maryland would probably be more competitive between parties.

We live in MoCo, and I would have to say thanks but no thanks.

NO. DC residents could become Maryland residents and the dc government could be separate the "DC" part. After all, Virginia got its land back but, Maryland never did. But I don't want to belong to a DC metro region state.

IIRC, Maryland doesn't want DC. So retrocession is a nonstarter.

Stop being stupid.

What's next? Making TX cities their own states? Making the large portion of CA that's conservative its own state? Allowing the conservative part of Oregon to be its own state?

Hard pass.

Politics are too different. Also VA is better managed than DC and Md, and NoVa would not want to lose it’s advantage.

Why not? What's the standard. We have states with under 1 million people. We also have states with dozens of millions. -NP

And dc residents don’t want to be part of MD so the whole solution is dumb. Who keeps suggesting this on thread? Virginia residents?

NO. Very blue Virginia Dem here. Virginia state government, state universities, most of the state General Assembly are all just fine here. ZERO interest in exiting Virginia.

If this was done, the rest of VA and MD would turn into red states. So you would gain a very blue state, but create two very red ones in the process.

I'm good with VA for now
