| just go to thomas jefferson rec center turf in arlington any day of the week and join a pickup game |
Create one. It's not hard. Get your U14 to text some of his/her friends and meet at the local park. |
And I just want to add that I don't say this with a bad tone. I think we need more pick up games around and the fact that you are interested led me to write this. Like I said...contact your kid's teammate's parents and have them bring friends and just support it. |
| There just isn’t enough interest in soccer in most areas here for pickup games. My boys both play for their HS soccer team. Even they choose to play pickup basketball and football in the neighborhood. They don’t play HS basketball or football, only soccer. But basketball and football is what they and all their friends follow and have the most interest in playing casually. Including their friends on the soccer team. |
| I know the indoor place in Rockville Sofive has drop in soccer but not sure if they are open back yet. There has to be a few more places in northern va I think in Tysons area |
You said "in most areas here". Are you in the DMV? If so, where in general. Also, you only need to get like 10 players. remember they don't all have to be the same age or skill level. Even add adults. U14s and higher are big kids any way usually. You can play 5v5 or if you have less or more players...you can play with a team waiting and two teams play to 2 or 3 goals, winner stays on. You can do this 3v3, 4v4, etc. |
We live in Loudoun. My point is the kids in the neighborhood, including the soccer players, aren’t very interested in pickup soccer. There is a soccer field nearby and most of the time there are pickup football games there. Also at the outdoor school basketball courts. |
The first rule of pickup soccer during a pandemic is: You do not talk about pickup soccer. The second rule of pickup soccer is: You do not talk about pickup soccer. Third rule of pickup. Someone yells "Cops", run to space, tell the cops you are not scared of the flu and my parent said I had to play. Fourth rule: Only 10 players to a field. |
We can have full games now in Fairfax Co. |
It's all tenuous right now. Doesn't hurt to keep a low profile. Youth baseball had games in June during Phase 2 - somehow they got the permits and kept it quiet. Washington Post had an editorial yesterday chiding Virginia for entering Phase 3. Cases are rising in Hampton Roads. There will be some who will be back out soon screaming for Northam to reimpose restrictions. |
Roanoke and all those little town through out the state(same in NC) are having the same problem. Add in testing in those areas are running a week to 10 days behind. This makes it really difficult to contact trace and self quarantine. So more spread. |
