Safeway v. Giant v. Harris Teeter

Anonymous
Just moved to the area and am not familiar with any of these stores. What's the difference/ pro/con to each?

It really depends on your neighborhood and what you buy. Which stores are you used to/do you prefer?

In my neighborhood, Harris Teeter is the nicest one, Giant is solid with good prices and where I shop the most, and Safeway is where I go for a last minute run because it’s closest, but I have to check the dates on everything because they don’t rotate their stock and always sell expired foods.

Harris Teeter is the nicest in nova, and is a bit more expensive. I feel like every time I go to a safeway there are one or more homeless people loitering outside.

OP here. I've been to 2 different safeways and am not impressed, and now I see they are the same as Von's in california, which was my least preferred grocery option there and used for similar last-minute runs. So I guess I'm wondering which of the others is better, but at the moment I'm not exactly looking to frequent/leisurely peruse grocery stores to find my favorite, you know what I mean?

I would consider Giant to be a good middle-of-the-road choice. If you want something a little bit nicer and are willing to spend a little bit more for it, then Harris Teeter is a good option.

Giant is low class.

PPs have given good advice. Harris Teeter is a little more southern as well as a little more upscale. Giant is a local chain and is still a union shop. But the differences are pretty small. I’d probably shop whichever is more convenient or I’d stick to Giant as a little cheaper.

I don't really like any of them but those are my nearby choices. if I had to rank I guess it would be Harris Teeter (Centro in Arlington) Safeway (Bradlee) and Giant (??)

Harris Teeter is Kroger, a middle-of-the-Road choice

Just go to Wegmans and stick to store brands. It’s so much cheaper and you don’t have to go chasing circular deals all over the place.

Harris Teeter is Kroger, a middle-of-the-Road choice

While it's true that Kroger owns Harris Teeter Krogers have a much wider selection in my experience

People who have wegmans do seem to love them but there are only a few in the area i think

Of the three, Harris teeter is my favorite and has much better quality products and overall is more upscale. But Wegman’s is my favorite.

None of these 3. Do yourself a favor and head to Wegmans.
