OP here. I've been to 2 different safeways and am not impressed, and now I see they are the same as Von's in california, which was my least preferred grocery option there and used for similar last-minute runs. So I guess I'm wondering which of the others is better, but at the moment I'm not exactly looking to frequent/leisurely peruse grocery stores to find my favorite, you know what I mean?[/quote]

I would consider Giant to be a good middle-of-the-road choice.  If you want something a little bit nicer and are willing to spend a little bit more for it, then Harris Teeter is a good option.  [/quote]
