July 4th on National Mall - who is going?

Sounds like the July 4th celebration on the National mall will proceed complete with fireworks and flyovers. Seems like a terrible idea given that so many cities are seeing resurgence in Covid infections and that no one will be required to wear a mask. Protests also planned so potentially a lot of people in close contact.

If you’re local (in the DMV) are you planning on attending? Curious if this is an event that will primarily attract out of towners or locals - or both. And does Bowser support this? Realize it may not be in her control but this seems like a bad idea from a public health perspective even if it offers a boost to business (which I recognize as valuable but a resurgence of Covid is also costly economically).

From what I saw of protesters over the past weeks most were pretty conscious of SD and masks. Don’t have as much faith in tourists.

Bowser and the chief of police begged everyone to stay home. Can't they shut down the permits or something?
Anonymous
Nope. Keep it.

No way are we heading to the mall. Hope to see something from our home but we aren’t making any extra effort to watch the flyovers and fireworks.

Hell to the no. I can't believe there was no way for the DC govt or police to stop this shiteshow.

The most unpatriotic gathering to celebrate the 4th in history. Only those who don't care about America would go.

It's going to be mostly out of towners who show up on the mall. Actually being there isn't that bad if you can stake out a spot with a blanket. It's the travel to and from and using the bathroom that are problematic.

Have you ever been? It's not "fine" on the mall.
