playing for more than one club ?

Can a player be on a roster for more than one club if the teams play in different leagues?

Or do you officially roster with one Club and then use a 'club player pass' to just guest on another team?

It's a weird situation and I know my younger son did it one year because one team was VYSA and the other was..I'm blanking of the other association--US Club soccer.

We have a situation where a player was with a team for 3 years, but due to new HS far away can only make games for one team and occasional practices.

I also have a friend's son in a similar situation that frequently plays in tournaments for another Club. I wasn't sure how it works for league games if the the teams are in different leagues, e.g., EDP and NCSL.

Thanks in advance!

My son did it. You can be carded for more than one club, but one club has to be designated as "primary." At least in Maryland, the only significance of that was that he couldn't play in State Cup for the non-primary team.

Okay. Thanks!

I saw the State Cup as the only issue. However, only one of the teams plays in VA State Cup so I guess that will be the 'primary' one.

The primary team's club owns the card. The player does not. Therefore, you're primary team would need to release the card.

Okay. Both Clubs will be informed and we will be sure they know the situation and are okay. Thanks!

So--just to clarify.

If the teams play in different leagues---do you need the card released for each game?

Or since they are different leagues--if you are on both rosters for the different teams which the league has--is that fine and you don't have to get the card every single league game?

That's the way to do it. Good luck. Just make sure that it is straight well in advance of State Cup if your child wants to play.

I thought about this idea when my son started to play soccer, but then realized he needs more training to become better, but by playing more games.

My kid is turning 15 in late September (will be U16) and the team Club he loves (past 3 years) is a long drive and he would get home at 10:30pm after training next year. He is starting HS in the city and needs to be up early. Going to bed at 11pm is too late for a rigorous academic schedule. He will train Friday nights/some weekend games/tournaments and train 2 days during school week with Club close to home. Different leagues- games usually Saturday in one and Sunday in the other.

For little kids it is over kill and they will burn out. This is all kids’ desire and teams would like him to play.

I know several middle to high school aged players who are dual carded. They all play for one team that is US Youth Soccer (CCL, NCSL etc), and the other team is US Club Soccer (NPL). So they don’t have 2 US Youth Soccer cards, but rather one of each cards. Communication has to be clear around tournaments though, as it can be uncomfortable if both teams are playing the same tournament and the player has to choose a team. It can cause frustration amongst the players of the secondary team.
