I thought about this idea when my son started to play soccer, but then realized he needs more training to become better, but by playing more games.
My kid is turning 15 in late September (will be U16) and the team Club he loves (past 3 years) is a long drive and he would get home at 10:30pm after training next year. He is starting HS in the city and needs to be up early. Going to bed at 11pm is too late for a rigorous academic schedule. He will train Friday nights/some weekend games/tournaments and train 2 days during school week with Club close to home. Different leagues- games usually Saturday in one and Sunday in the other. For little kids it is over kill and they will burn out. This is all kids’ desire and teams would like him to play.
