In my perfect world - what would you do?

If
(1) your child got into GDS, Burgundy, Lowell, Green Acres
(2) your child had a 99% WPPSI
(3) all four schools were down the block from your home
(4) and even tthough GDS goes to 12, assume that Burgundy, Lowell and Green Acres meant automatic acceptance to ___ (fill in your school here)

Which would you choose?

All I can say is that I would never send my child to a school called Green Acres.
Too many potential jokes about "Green Acres being the place to be...."

???? Not getting what you are saying. Can you just spell it out.

I know! My friend sends her son there and it never stops being funny. That being said, OP, they think it is a wonderful place that has done terrific things for their child and they couldn't be happier.

The opportunity to assume a Hungarian accent and sing "I get allerzhic smelling hay!" is too good to pass up, IMO.

All things being equal, I would choose GDS. Also, I think that 4 is a dangerous asumption to make and (2) will likely be irrevant when it comes time to apply to high school (assuming you did not choose GDS).

Good Luck!

If you truly have the choice of all 4? GDS. If not GDS, the other three are lovely and fairly equivalent, so use cost or commuting to break the tie. Sounds like a TERRIBLE problem to have!!

OP, I really liked your question. I am trying to decide between GDS and several other schools (including GA). Distance is always a factor. And it is hard to compare a school that goes through 12 and one that stops at 8. It is interesting to think that if you leveled the field among progressive schools, does GDS always come out on top. Over the last few weeks, I've come to believe that it does. Then you have to figure out whether the other factors are important enough to warrant making a different decision. (In my case, GDS still wins).

I'm actually beginning to think I may prefer a school that goes through 8. I think 13 years is a long time to spend in one place, with largely the same kids. And I like the idea that kids at K-8 schools are not directly exposed (in school at least) to the "maturing" influence of older teenagers.

PP, I agree generally about your thoughts on K-8; but GDS has the HS on a completely different campus and I think expands a great deal in size between 8 and HS.

That's what I'm leaning toward too. Even though GDS has different buildings and a different campus for HS, I'm thinking it might be nice for the older kids (grade 6 or 8) to be the stars for a while. Better distribution of resources too for the middle grades when at a k-8 environment. Leaning toward Lowell now.

There have been a number of posts on local listservs lately about unruly/threatening behavior by Wilson students around the Tenleytown metro, which is a few blocks from the GDS high school. Do the GDS & Wilson communities generally have a positive, antagonistic, or no relationship?
