In my perfect world - what would you do?

Are these public listservs and if so can you tell me how to access them? What you've said concerns me. Or does anyone have anymore info?

Thanks!

Definitely pick the school that seems like it would be the best fit for you and your family right now. Things may change down the road, so I wouldn't be stuck too much on how GDS goes all the way through 12 since it is possible that a different school might end up being a better fit later on. It's really hard to just pick which school is "best" all things being equal because only you know the inner workings of your family and I am sure have the best sense for where your child may best thrive. Trust your instincts. And don't worry that if you don't choose GDS now that they will not want to admit your child in the future. They aren't the Mafia and won't put you on the hit list!

"There have been a number of posts on local listservs lately about unruly/threatening behavior by Wilson students around the Tenleytown metro, which is a few blocks from the GDS high school. Do the GDS & Wilson communities generally have a positive, antagonistic, or no relationship? "

Would these incidents really sway anyone away from GDS? It doesn't sound like a chronic/unending issue like crack dealing, gang violence, and drive-by shootings are in other parts of the city. IMHO there's a difference between "unruly" and "threatening" behavior. In either case, one would hope that most teenagers growing up in the city are mature - and streetwise - enough to handle occaisional incidents once they get to high school.

Sounds like GDS is worth the risk.

GDS is by far the most interesting & diverse & challenging school-- also has the best academic reputation.
