For those who private pay for a skilled nursing facility, how much do you pay and where is the facility located?

Greesnpring in Alexandria is 456 dollars a day plus 103,000 dollar deposit if you are not already a resident of the community when you enter.

It depends on the facility, the amenities, the level of care needed, etc. But I can't imagine finding it for less than $450 a day in the DMV.

Yeah that's what we found...450-500s a day in the DC area...if you go down to Southern VA you can find decent places for 300-350 a day.

My mom was recently paying $336 at ManorCare. We also looked at the Hebrew Home and it was significantly more expensive.

The middle class spends down their money and goes on Medicaid.

It wouldn’t take long for the average person to wind up on Medicaid at those rates, even with a pension and SS. Perhaps a couple of months. Plus, a lot of facilities won’t even accept Medicaid.

This. The lucky ones have homes that have appreciated enough and that they can sell to pay for their long-term care for a couple years. Hopefully they don't linger longer than that (sad but true).

Hebrew Home is running us $13k/mo, I think.

That’s about $164k a year. If you have full time care in home, it will be more. If you need 24 hour care, you are just waiting to die. Hopefully that doesn’t take years.

How insensitive. Someone in oxygen and in a wheelchair may need almost 24 hour care.
