Cost of skilled nursing facility

Anonymous
Prices vary by level of care needed. Skilled Nursing Home care (SNF) is different and more expensive than extended care/nursing homes (ECFs). It can be cheaper to pay for three shifts of home care; most nursing home aids are paid minimum wage and caring for one person is much easier work. But it’s difficult to guarantee coverage consistently at home unless you find someone willing to provide care in return for living in the home room and board. Difficult to make sure the caregiver will be honest and provide quality care. Medicare will pay for limited SNF care if purpose is rehabilitation if admitted after three day inpatient hospitalization, but percent per day payment drops off rapidly, I think have 99 days during your lifetime (not per year).
