MCPS Summer School

I was reading the other thread from the teachers about summer school. Have any elementary parents heard anything?

"Generally, programs will run from one to three weeks beginning July 13, depending on the program. Parents will be notified by their school principal which programs will be available at their schools, and will receive details about program registration from their local school. Registration links will be posted on school websites by June 23, 2020. "

Our elementary school just sent out minimal information. You sign up for 1-3 classes. A reading class, a math class, and an enrichment class. There are 4 enrichment classes- 2 for the k-2 group and 2 for the 3-5 group. They did note that math was not remedial which is good

It sounds like each class is 40-50 minutes on zoom each day M-F. Everything is in the morning.

I am signing my 4th grader up for math and for enrichment (a class about animals because she loves animals and the teacher). I don’t want to do all 3 because 3 hours of Zoom a day is just too much. It’s nice that they’re free and I hope it’s worthwhile!

I hope all schools do this, no word from ours yet!

Where did you sign up?

Each school is sending their own sign-up form. I have received one from the elementary school and middle school but my dd just finished 8th and actually qualifies for the high school one (eek!) which I have not seen yet.

I’m guessing they’ll all be sent out by tomorrow.

We just got an email today. Doesn’t say when it starts but says to sign up for upto 3 50 min live/interactive classes a day. Live and interactive sounds great in writing but the reality was a shit show. We are not signing up.

You don’t need to sign up for all 3. You can just pick 1 that sounds interesting for your child. I think it’s great that they’re offering!

In theory I like it but the hours are odd.

Does your current school send one or your new school? We are switching to a new school for 3rd grade, but it's not clear to us that they have any information about us. Haven't received any notifications of summer school or anything else.
