| Neighbor has a beautiful pool and is there every single day playing music from 10am to 7pm. The music levels can vary but I don't understand why they can't go to their backyard without playing music every single time (which is all day). The level varies but it can be to the extreme point of us not being able to hear each other outside to the lower level where we listen to their music. If we play music (just not to hear their music) they put it up times 3. We had friends come over (before covid) who also don't enjoy sitting on out patio or deck since it's like being at Ocean city. The neighbors are nice liked etc. but I hate that our great backyard is so nice ONLY when they leave which is at 6-7pm. Before that it's a disco. AUGH! |
| So ask them to turn it down? They likely don’t know it’s so loud |
| Have you tried talking with them about it? |
| Disco would be a no-go for me. |
| We haven't asked them yet though we have had a few encounters that there is no way they know they are not loud. And how do you tell them to stop playing f** music everytime they go outside? pool\eat whatever- they are always outside. So us and the other neighbor hate being outside from 10-6/7 since it's like living at ocean city. Help? advice? |
| We have only dealt with them for one season- this summer which has been them playing music every day for at least 10 hours.. sucks.. |

check your local noise ordinance. here is MoCos: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/DEP/contact/noise.html
you can get an app that will measure the DB level. if it is above the allowable amount, talk to them nicely first, and if that doesnt work, show them the code (and if that doesnt work, call the police). |
| That would be miserable to have next door. |
| I had a neighbor like that except it was cigarette smoke. It always drifted into our yard. Stinky. |

How annoying! Unfortunately I see little you can do during those hours...just part of having neighbors.
People seem to have different noise tolerances and preferences. My own DH is super loud and loves playing music etc by our pool and even I do not like it! Fortunately for the neighbors it is usually only in the evening hours- I make him turn it off at 9 on weeknights, 10 on weekends because I don’t want everyone to hate us. That said, it is always something- music, barking dog, kids, annoying lawn mowing noise or landscaping etc Just part of living in a fairy populated area. I prefer quiet and hate all of the above but can’t control my neighbors and don’t expect to... |
They likely don't care either unfortunately. I'm sorry, sounds miserable. |

Step one, ask nicely.
Give it time. Step two.. ask again, nicely. Give it time. Step three pick the most annoying music you think he won't like.. either Opera or some National Exotic rythms or Oldies from 1900's and play at full blast so he can hear it too. Leave home as you do. He might get the message.

yes, definitely a great starting point. |
Not OK! |
I think they do know since the OP stated that when she plays music - they turn theirs up. I think the best advice here would be to talk to them tactfully. Do you have an HOA that might help? |
