Myrtle Beach

We are thinking about renting a house on Myrtle beach, SC. What do you think of it as a family destination?

Look at North myrtle instead

Go if you are tolerant and not a snob.

We stay about 30 minutes north every year and love it. Many middle class southerners and mid westerners, so agree that snobbishness won’t go well with it. But great beaches that aren’t too crowded, clean, safe surf, tidal pools in many places.

No boardwalk and not as many attractions as local beaches. There are some restaurants (normally) and souvenir shops but nothing grand.

In other words, it’s trashy.

Myrtle Beach is a “trashy” vacation that we enjoy.
It’s filled with fun on the beach (The beaches are well-kept for the most part), jet skiing, tourist traps like Ripleys believe or or not...
There’s a lot to do.
Is it my favorite place? No. But is it fun? Yes!

If you are going to drive to Myrtle, I would just drive the extra hour and a half to Hilton Head.

Myrtle is fun. We have reservations for there in August. The beach is nice, water is warm and there are tons of things to do. There are a million mini golf places, aquarium, crazy boardwalk, amusement parks and trashy beach stores. It’s fun.

This. The beach is wide like OC too.

I prefer Myrtle Beach and actually lived in NOrth Myrtle for a couple of years. I am not a fan of Hilton Head. Hilton Head was developed on land owned by African Americans for centuries. African Americans were displaced.
Developers created one condo community after another. Hilton Head is very sanitized. Myrtle Beach is quite interesting and there is a lot of variety to be had. It is much shorter drive.

Myrtle Beach has a very tiny boardwalk. The beach itself is great. Myrtle Beach is a bit less trashy than OC. The popcorn shrimp, hush puppies and sweet tea are great in Myrtle Beach. Barbeque is pretty good too.

We own a beach front condo in Myrtle Beach. We are north of the busy night life. We selected this beach because we have young kids and there is a lot to do. It's very family friendly. There is also golfing and good restaurants.

There is a ton to do and we typically go each year. We're skipping our trip this year because we stay at a condo resort and it's always very crowded. I also wasn't comfortable going to all of the fun public places we typically go to.

If you just want the beach, which is very good, go to North Myrtle or one of the outlying smaller towns.

No Hilton head island was not built on land African Americans owned for centuries. You can easily trace the land ownership from before 1776. Are you just making thing up?

This, plus Myrtle Beach was once home to Native Americans in addition to a lot of other great vacation spots I am sure you visit. Ifyou want to call people, look in the mirror first.

They’re not taking covid seriously at all. So if that would bother you. Don’t go.
